interesting signing, good to have more youth coming through at CB and cover at RB
@0.30 secs A really nice bit of play there.. strength and composure!
at least someone at the club now is thinking about the future.
we had semi ajayi before who was developing into a good player at this level, but we got rid when he was like 23? would be worth a few quid if we shill had him here now.
I don't think Ajayi or Lockyer in particular were ever getting into the side though and weren't better than what we had in the position at the time.
Both have improved a lot because they moved away and got experience. Lockyer was still relegated with Charlton and is now ith Luton.
Ajayi would be around the 1st team if he had progressed as he has elsewhere with us, but he probably wouldn't have. He needed that time with Rotherham to become the player he has where he played about three times as many games compared to the 3 loan spells he had away whilst with us.
The club will get a few wrong, the vast majority who we let go were the right decision, just no one mentions them.
Lockyer has been a professional footballer for 7 seasons. 6 of those were in League One or below and the other was for a club that got relegated from the Championship. Our worst league finish in that time was 12th in the Championship and we've had 2 seasons in the Premier League. He isn't good enough for us.
Chanka Zimba (also 18 and ex Blackburn) has also signed today:

Remember the last Man Utd Ollie (Ole) connection
Says nothing for our own Academy when we have to sign youngsters rejected by other clubs. We might as well get rid of the Academy as all it seems to do is breed players only good enough for lower and non league football. Nonetheless some young blood is very welcome.
There was a really good podcast a few years ago, swear it was BBC but for the life of me can't find it. They basically set forth and argued (amongst experts) the cost V's social responsibility to the community of an academy. There was sentiment for the community but the be all and end all was the 'Micheal Lewis Moneyball' and it was scrupulous in how much a waste of money an academy was!
I think all football should be about community, and to not come across as a massive racist but cardiff should look to emulate the Lisbon Lions lol
