Top man!
https://www.theguardian.com/football...-loose-cannons
Southall turns 62 on Wednesday but he is far from resigned to the way the world is reeling. He is driven in his quest to help other people. Southall, in short, remains the most original, compassionate and politicised former footballer in Britain as he uses his striking presence on Twitter to offer a platform to communities that are usually ignored or derided. He allows his account to be taken over some nights by experts in mental health, addiction, transgender issues, sex work, disability, knife crime and suicide bereavement, while encouraging debate to combat racism and homophobia.
....
Southall is serious rather than sensationalist. In his timely new book, Mind Games, which is more about mental health than football, the one-word chapter titles are stark: Fear, Abuse, Failure, Improvement, Racism, Homophobia, Motivation or, more expansively, Helping Others and Getting Older. Southall moves between fleeting reflections of his own extraordinary career and suggestions on how those lessons might be applied to ordinary people.
absolute legend true socialist
I didn't know anything about Neville's stance on life before reading that piece (many thanks Jon). What an impressive man; he puts so many to shame.
I real diamond. I wish we had more like him.
Gets no mention in our Welsh media, yet he is better, more articulate, more caring, than many we hear on a daily basis.
Worth following on twitter.
I don't know if it was true, but it used to be said that Neville Southall would turn up for training at Everton on a bike - from what you hear about him, you can't help thinking that it may well have been true.
Forget about the party political points he makes, Neville Southall has put an awful lot back into society having been part of a profession that is generally not noted for that sort of thing and it is genuine help he offers, not the "does a lot of good work for charidee, but doesn't like to talk about it" Smashy and Nicey type stuff.
Neville Southall is an impressive human being.
Southall's always been a good one.

He has put on loads of weight
I hope he loses some of it and he stays with us for a long long time
Took his daughter to court to get his medals and Wales caps back. Left her with £6000 court costs to pay. Nice guy
I just had a quick Google of it.
There doesn't seem to be much out there about this story, but the little information that there is from the rags doesn't show Nev in a good light, unfortunately.
Essentially, he gave his daughter his medals and caps etc when she was 10 and then he left the family only a few years later (she's quoted as being a "teenager in court") and he sued to get them back.
Unless she had taken them under false pretences or actively stolen them, I can't see how a father could do that to his child.
