In a referendum traditionally the question asked is to change the status quo of whatever it is being voted on, and for a change the vote for change must be 50% (or whatever bench mark is set) plus 1 of the available votes, so if a million people can vote then for change 500,001 must vote for the change. So if 499,999 vote yes and 250,00 vote no then the Noes carry the day. Anyone who does not vote is considered to not want change. In this case I agree with you 100% that the silent majority carries the day.
However somebody in UK recent political history changed the rules in order to manipulate the answer they wanted in a referendum and that opened the door for ever. This error was compounded by the percentage for change in the Brexit vote being set at 50% in stead of 60% where it should have been for such a momentous vote (But then all referenda should be for momentous things)
If it is any consolation to you I vote to remain but I accept that the vote cast was to leave so I will abide by that. The people protesting were ( and some still are) just moaning because they lost the vote.
If 'Remain' had won by the same small margin, the people now demanding another vote wouldn't be doing it, they'd be saying the vote is the vote and it should stand. That is the nature of people. It is why the trigger should have been set at 60%. But we are where we are, and forever crying and complaining about it is both pointless and undemocratic.
Its like sludge continually saying less than half the population at the last election voted for the conservatives. If people couldn't be arsed to get up and vote then they have no room to complain. The got what they deserved.
