Thread: Flu Jab

  1. #1

    Flu Jab

Having one for the first time at 9.20 this morning. Haven’t bothered before but thought I’d go for it this year with all that’s going on, more protection perhaps?? Anyone had any adverse after effects?

    Re: Flu Jab

You sometimes catch the flu after the jab.
Weird I know, but apparently that’s the way it works

    Re: Flu Jab

You get injected with a dead version of the flu virus, so there is a small chance your body will react like you actually have the flu - fever, headaches, muscle aches etc. for a few days. Most common side effect for the injection is arm ache, by the looks of it.

Either way, it's better than actually catching the flu.

I've had one for the last few years and as said minor sniffle once and usually a bit of a swelling in the arm around where they inject.

Oh and ever since I have had this mad desire to buy Microsoft products and support the global ambitions of Bill Gates.

First time I had it it knocked me out for the rest of the day. Felt really shite. Every year since it's been no problem at all.

Yes, I had my first one six or seven years ago and I felt pretty rotten for the rest of the day. The nurse had warned me that this may happen, but said that in subsequent years most people were fine - that's exactly what's happened with me, no problems whatsoever after that first one.

    How do you manage that?
You have the jab and the Mrs gets a swollen arm? If it works like that I'm having mine tomorrow.

I'm sticking to my Vitamin D , C and Zinc Picolinate at the recommended daily intake , I'd advise buying decent brands like Solgar though , kept colds, Flu at bay for years , used to suffer badly every winter, doctor pointed out thier benefits , I see that Covid patients are supplied this stuff.

    Re: Flu Jab

We have just done a phone around our GP and a few local chemists - planned to get a flu jab for the first time this year as we now both qualify as over 60.

They are all on the verge of running out and are not offering it to anyone under 65 without a major underlying health problem. They have no idea when new stocks will be available.

Apparently it's a nocebo (negative placebo effect).
Studies were done comparing symptoms reported after a flu vaccine and after a placbo vaccine and all symptoms were exactly the same between the two groups - with the exception of the real flu vaccine more often gave a sore arm afterwrds,

It's unusual to think of Bill Gates as someone who could get rid of a virus.

Isnt the vaccine for over 65's different? I'm under 65 but in the vulnerable group and have a flu jab booked with my gp for 3 weeks time (as thats when theyll have stock). They're currently doing jabs for over 65's.

    Re: Flu Jab

I wouldn't worry about getting a flu jab this year anyway. Flu virus, like COVID, is spread by coughs/sneezes. Surely this has to be the safest winter ever with regards catching flu - when did we last all wear face masks, use hand sanitiser and wash our hands every time we went in/out of the house?
