Thread: Best strikers in the last 20 years

I can’t believe Peter Thorne isn’t getting more love.

Quality, clever player who made up in football intelligence, what he lacked in pace.

    He was class.

Chopra for me, never far from creating a chance, never stopped

Jay would be a close 2nd, but at times his attitude just let him down, when the game wasnt going our /his way, his head dropped and he looked like he couldnt be bothered

I remember wanting McCormack to start up front with Bothroyd, and was gutted when we moved him on. He was quality.

Zohore was unplayable during his purple patch. If he had kept that form up, he would've been right up there.

Isn’t Earnie the only player to score hat tricks in all 4 divisions,FA Cup, League Cup and International levels?

Robbie Fowler followed by Jummy Floyd Hasselbaink.... but sadly not for us.

    Very good lower league player.

I wouldnt have Thorne anywhere near top 10.

I would argue the other way around, I think Jimmy's scoring record over his career was slightly better, and he was successful at several clubs and I think was top scorer in La Liga one season. But there's not a lot in it I suppose.

Thinking about it anywhere near top 10 is harsh. Definitely not in the top 10 though.

    I loved Thorney too.
Earnshaw took most of the plaudits but Thorne was just as important to us at the time.
He was the Toshack to Earnie's Keegan.

Earnie had the chance to play at the top level and did well, shame we didn't get to see Thorney play at that level.
Then again I suppose you find the level you are comfortable with.

Re the OP, I would go for Chopra over Jay as the latter, although unplayable on his day, wasn't consistent and would go missing on occasions.

Another lower level striker I also loved, Stantona.
No nonsense, get it in the net!

I would go as far to say that he may even sneak into some peoples top 10. Once you get past Chopra, Bothroyd, Campbell, Moore, Earnie, Helgason, Mccormack we get a bit thin on the ground and could be anyone.

I'd be struggling to make a top 10 that didn't include Thorne

    In no particluar order

    Bothroyd
    Chopda
    McCormack
    Zohore
    Helguson
    Earnshaw

    Are obvious contenders
    Too early to include Moore

    Then we've got Hasselbaink?
Fowler would certainly be there if he'd played more games but hard to argue a place for him with only 13 appearances
    Campbell
    Mason?
    Parry?

I'd have Thorne ahead of any of that last bunch.
