What car do you drive ? Not one for the petrol heads

I have never been into cars , only interested in one that works , is safe to drive and gets me from a to b

I have had a mini , another mini , a mini metro .......I am not driving a mini metro , an astra and a Ford escort

I have taken over the family Ford c max , its ten years old and has done 45000 miles

Its a bit too chunky for what I need but I can go fishing , take stuff up the tip , naff off to Tenby for a weekend, drive down the city etc

Its got a small patch of rust that needs looking at and the passenger side electric window needs sorting

Its harder to park than a fiesta or clio but its more solid and has more space and I hate those land rover discovery four by four beasts

I spoke to my mechanic the other day and he reckons with regular winter services and not bombing off to Birmingham every other weekend I could get another 100000 miles out of this , the zetec engines are like the vauxhaul ones , real workhorses . If I don't have to get another car for ten years I will be well happy.

The only hassle is 200 Road tax but thats nothing compared to buying a new car every four years , I dont understand why people do that , or spending loads on finance

I feel sorry for young people, one of my mums carers has to pay 800 quid a year to insure her 1.1 runaround

One of my fiestas the insurance I think was about £1500 as my 18 year old was added. Feckin hope it goes down a bit on renewal this year. Was about 350 I think without him.

Even £350 seems high for a Fiesta. I pay less than that for a more powerful car and one accident that was my fault in the last 5 years.

I have a 2007 BMW 3 series, lovely car, about £3000 value, but it is quality still looks modern to me.
It has been well looked after currently on 80k miles I plan on getting another 100k from it. which will take me 6-8 years.

Next car will be electric, my friends has the new tesla, an amazing car

Mazda 6, 171,000 miles on the clock. No interest in cars, but I guess I am only one big repair bill away from needing to replace it.

Tesla Model 3 ... amazing car and cheap as chips to run with no engine to service. The biggest problem is when I was parking the stadium carpark on matchday and almost over feckers who couldn't hear me!

Sorry to divert away from the original intention of the thread but what mileage do you get before recharging the Tesla. I nearly bought one earlier in the year from Cribbs Causeway in Bristol but there were no Tesla charging points within 30 miles of where I live. I know there are alternatives but I didn't fancy getting stranded somewhere with no battery power.

Two wheels for me - my better half has the car (which is grey with a roof and doors). Got a couple of bikes at the mo; new Yamaha Tenere and an old Honda Sabre

If charged to 90% (the recommended maximum for regular use) then I can get just under 200 miles in real world driving - that's for the performance model, long range is slightly better and standard range is much less.

The secret for electric is home charging. Plug it in overnight and it's ready to go with a full 'tank' every morning - and costs less than £6 to fully charge from empty!

Honda Accord estate which I have had from brand new.
Ugly as sin, 180k on the clock but never goes wrong and is supremely comfortable.
Will be gutted when it gives up the ghost as I doubt I will find anything as good although the fuel consumption is alarming compared to modern cars.

Peugeot 308cc getting on for 7 years old.

Low mileage, good looking and comfortable - with or without the roof.

Like all Peugeot's it has some bad habits (mainly when it comes to electrical glitches) but I know them all now and can sort them out quickly.

A mate of mine used to call the Peugeot convertibles 'hairdresser cars' - trying to take the piss - but I can cope with the image of me as Warren Beatty in 'Shampoo'!

Its a 2107 AMG Mercedes Convertible averages around 12mpg and road tax is somewhere around £600 a year .Great car that is addicted to petrol. Luckily my work is 6 miles from my home ..
I also have a 1990 T4 camper van which is mint , been all over in it , just returned from Scotland for third 3rd time.
Mustn't forget my 1990 mini cooper that is a thing of beauty .

For a less petrol head post
We have a Audi estate 2003 I think it is which has done 330 ,000 miles used to be mine , now a courtesy car , a few of the posters on here have had the pleasure . Still drives really well ..

Re: What car do you drive ? Not one for the petrol heads

We have a few sat on our drive / garage

starting with the best and going backwards

My 1959 VW Splitscreen camper ( its Lovely, not concourse quality, but very nice )

    Wife's VW T5 ( now done over 300 K )

    Daughters Toyota Aygo

Family citroen C1 ( its somewhat of a family pool car, lovely cheap runaround )

My vauxhall vivaro ( its my work van, its been on its death bed for 3 years now, but it still keeps going )

I really fancy a Mk 1 Escort now, been looking for a few weeks, got some money to blow and why not blow it on a classic Mk1 Escort ? ? ? not sure if its just the mood i am in, a midlife crisis, or just something to help me look forward ? ? ?

then again i have always fancied 4 X 4 off-roading, living 10 mins from Salisbury plains makes me think maybe now is the time to indulge in that " 5 minute wonder idea "

a mate of mine is trying to talk me into getting a Track car, split the costs 50 / 50 , i live fairly close to castle combe race track and a little further from Thruxton track, so its a fairly sensible idea

how often do you get the car out ? ? ?

What's the Bonneville like? I quite fancy the scrabler version.
