I don't think they ever made a bad song.
Some better than others but like any other band once the better songs become stale another one takes its place.
    Love Peg Deacon Blues Rikki.
    Chosen this one though

For once I agree with you Sludge !

Some of the best solos are played by Larry Carlton. Kid Charlemagne is probably the best of them followed by the introduction to Don't Take Me Alive.

I'd also go for FM as my fave SD song, but that's cos I'm going through an every-piece-of-music-would-be-improved-by-a-sax-solo phase.

Great band, saw them a couple of times, so many great tracks.

Generally prefer the earlier albums to the smoother later ones though. Don't really have a favourite track, too many to choose one really. But have always liked "Don't Take Me Alive", perhaps one that doesn't get played as much as some others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwMBza9Uil0

Another classic. Those two keyboard chords typify the Steely Dan/Donald Fagen sound for me.

    Re: Steely Dan Appreciation Society

Although Steely Dan were essentially Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, the other members made a big contribution to their sound too. Terrific band, a bit different from your normal rock band of the time, incorporated elements of jazz into their music.

All the albums they made in the 1970s are totally indispensable.

Great slide guitar solo by Rick Derringer on this track.

Brilliant band. I've got most of their stuff, though I do prefer the 'middle three' albums - Pretzel Logic, Katie Lied, and Countdown to Ecstasy - to the others. A lot of people go on about Aja, but I find it a bit self-indulgent, even though I am a fan. Missed a few opportunities to se them live, for various reasons, and now Becker is gone, it's not going to be the same, if the chance ever arises again. Great band, and heartily recommended, especially if you are a musician yourself.

Can't Buy A Thrill is my favourite album of theirs.

It's a tad ironic that such a sophisticated band was named after a steam-powered dildo.
