    Euros Rethink

UEFA apparently considering dropping some venues or even holding it in one country, to be fair the whole tournament could be held in London if fans aren’t allowed. Squads could easily isolate around the city, much less travelling.

There wont be any crowds. Makes sense to restrict as much travel as possible.

True, plenty of grounds and training facilities in and around London, capacities obviously not an issue. A self contained, safe, cost effective tournament and more or less completely neutral without home fans.

    12 countries was always madness

They should find a big luxury island, lock it down and host a 6 week tournament, all teams, media and officials are tested.

And once inside it is like a big festival as everyone is Covid free, players can go out and about and mix, doing media and interviews on beaches ect, can be filmed like a reality tv show.
Maybe each country can have a competition to bring 100 fans each all expenses paid, all stay in hotels together and have supporter games and challenges, obviously go to watch the games. but can go to all of them not just your own team, so will have a good atmosphere each block in the stadium can be an individual countries 100 fans.

The idea was to allow smaller nations to host four games (plus) who otherwise wouldn't be able to manage a whole tournament. In theory, it was a worthy idea to celebrate anniversary of the Euros.

But one that every fan thought was ridiculous.

Yea one of those plans, that sounds great around a boardroom table, but a pain in the arse for the fans who actually have to pay and travel all those distances, covid or no covid it was a stupid idea.

And then they awarded most of the games to London Rome, Amsterdam etc in countries that were big enough to hold it on their own and regularly do!

I didn't mind the idea, however as someone else said then awarding so many games to countries who could host any time was a disgrace.

England seems main contenders especially with them not hosting for at least another 11 years

This makes sense. The original idea was laudable but with some of the major powers still hosting games mean it seemed a bit pointless.

To host in one country, even without supporters, there will still be a huge number of players, staff, journalists etc piling into that country and then moving around fixtures.

I can’t see many countries happy to host that if the virus hasn’t been suppressed.

For me this tournament will not take place.

Wasn’t the format for 2020 venues the brain fart of Platini’s? Wasn’t the process that cities bid and competed to become venues to host matches?

All very suspect considering it was the French maestro who instrumental in awarding Qatar the World Cup and his subsequent binning.

My personal opinion was the format was a money spinning TV format with **** all consideration for actual fans who go to watch games. The current football business at its best.

Moving around would be minimal if the whole thing was held in London. Squads would have just one base, one training facility and travel only a short distance to their match venues. Journalists wouldn’t be travelling around the country, one hotel for the whole tournament would suffice. After the group games many squads would be departing completely as well.
