I've always thought that if you have to bring in lots of players from overseas to be competitive, you're not doing enough of a job in producing your own players.

There is the argument in the Premier League that bringing in too many foreigners denies young British players the opportunity a chance. That is true to an extent, but it doesn't address what the Premier League needs. Ultimately it seeks to be one of the very top divisions in Europe that challenges in the latter stages of the Champions League. If there's a circle of clubs that keeps making the latter rounds, they all need to have the best players from around the world. Could you imagine the top 4 Premier League clubs relying on English born strikers? Not going to happen. Not even if they rely on European strikers.

The probability of the Premier League having much more home grown talent and still being as competitive in Europe is simply laughable. A few countries mop up the best talent from around the world. Football capitalism.
