There's something, isn't it? The UK and America have a strong right wing media presence that have attacked socialism for years. Socialist policies are generally more appealing to the general public as most blind policy tests keep proving, yet if you tell some people that they are socialist policies, they then think they're dreadful.

In both America and the UK, socialist politicians are the ones crucified by the media. The right wing media is run by those with lots of money. Isn't it odd that, across lots of other countries where the media isn't necessarily run by right wing billionaires, that socialism and centre left politics are much more common?

No Christmas card for him then

There is a story that he had a new security guard and when Trump was out and about the guard noticed someone in a crowd taking aim with a rifle. The new guard at the top of his voice shouted ' Mikey Mouse' and hearing this Trump looked around and in doing so the bullet zipped passed him.

The Guard's boss congratulated him on saving the president's life, but asked why he shouted Mikey Mouse.

The guard said it was nerves...I meant to shout ' Donald duck'

I appreciate that the Democrats aren’t socialists but to rid the world of this family dictatorship is worth celebrating.

Very good, but Mikey sort of took the shine off it

Don t think so either. He'll delay everything as much as possible to try and make Biden's win not look legitimate and then the Republicans will try and block things for at least two years. Biden has Covid and the economy and a split Democratic party to worry about as well. Trump did well enough in the election that he could well have the Republican party s support for next time.

I think his legal arguments are going to be just as full of holes as this one.

Isn’t from anyone who’s sane? I think even people who are slightly right leaning think he’s a dangerous ****.

Are you a fan of him? Can you really not understand why people think it’s good that he’s out?

It’s not like the democrats are even properly left, in terms on European governments they’re probably centrists at best.

So what's the point in labels like left or right in that country? That post about the fascination with Donald Trump from the left being baffling misses the point completely - there is no way I would have voted for that man given the opportunity even if he had been standing on a left wing ticket. The nearest comparison in this country I can think of is Ken Livingstone in that party politics would play np part in my decision about whether to vote for him or not.

It shows how childishly partisan politics has become.

Social media is being used as a tool to brainwash people into this.

There is no way the phrase "the lefts obsession with Donald Trump" comes into someone's head without reading it from some disingenuous dick head posing as an intellectual.

Mt obsession with Trump is because I genuinley think he's a dangerous man, very much the thin end of the wedge of facism. You only have to look at the words and phrases he uses to see this, look at the people he has on his side and the way they whip his base up.

Biden isn't great by any means but for the sake of normal people getting rid of Trump is massive.

Yes he's polarizing but its not his own supporters that are making comedy skits, dolls, blow up balloons and masks about him. It hardens his supporters views further and probably helps to swing over marginal votes. They've had 4 years of being told you was wrong to vote for Trump and people wonder why he's had another good campaign.

I wouldn't vote for him at all but both sides are as bad as each other, and only have themselves to blame.

Both sides aren't as bad as each other

Are you saying satirical piss taking of this twat is as bad as marching around with tiki torches shouting Jews will not replace us?

It's a complete bollocks argument. OH NO NOT BLOW UP DOLLS!

Both sides are not as bad as each other. Trump was offering something way beyond the normal democrat vs republican.

    Re: Hey Donald Trump

I do honestly think people were wrong to vote for Trump. The way he speaks about non white Americans, the way he speaks about foreigners, the way he speaks about women, the way he cosies up to dictators, the way he tried to undermine democracy. All of this done by relentless propaganda through Fox News and social media.

I'm sure not everyone who votes for him is a racist, but a large portion of his base have been radicalised by far right news sources.

Painting anyone who is anti trump as "left" is as backwards and short sighted as you can get.

From what I can gather, people who know more American politics than me will tell you that, to a degree, the Democratic Party brought the last four years on themselves and so, to an extent, you're right. Complacency by the progressive, liberal side (which qualifies as the left in America) in the 90s and 00s created the situation which led to Trump - I can remember the Tea Party being ridiculed when it first emerged, but so much of what they were for formed the basis of what the Republican Party is today.
However, Trump is a one off, if someone like Mike Pence had been President for the last four years, I'd say he'd probably have been starting his second term now, but thankfully, enough people realised that Trump transcended left and right barriers and was both dangerous and not up to the job. Even in defeat, he's proving his unfitness for the Presidency by acting like the sort of despot you may see in a South American country who refuses to accept defeat and holes themselves up in a bunker claiming the vote was rigged- Trump demeaned America and now he's demeaning democracy.

I agree. I'd even go a step further and suggest that Trump, a bit like Brexit over here, appealed to those who felt like they were unheard, to those who wanted to give the establishments in both countries a bit of a kicking. Brexit certainly transcended party politics in the UK in a similar way to Trump reaching out to, and alienating, both sides in America.

The big shame is that, those who felt that voting Trump (and Brexit) was taking back control from the establishment, were actually doing the very opposite. Assuming the next elections in UK and America will be in 2024, it'll be interesting to see how much support the right wing parties in each country actually get. The Conservatives got a relatively strong election result last year on the back of one issue, but when that's done and dusted, the party will need to move back into the centre or it'll lose lots of its new working class vote. From what I see, this government's popularity is plummetting and not just on the back of Covid. Brexit spoke to lots of working class people, the same who largely support things like Marcus Rashford's support for school meals during holidays for those who qualify for free school meals. Once Brexit dies down, we'll get back to normal policies again and this government won't stand a chance on a right wing ticket if they attack the working classes.

The same will be true in America with former Democrats who voted for Trump, but who may not have as natural a home with the Republicans. From my limited knowledge of American politics, it has always seemed that any President who has done ok in his first term of office gets in, certainly in more recent times. In my lifetime, Trump follows Jimmy Carter and George Bush (first one) as Presidents that have only served one term and not been re-elected, unlike Reagan, Clinton, Bush Jnr and Obama. I was one of many who were astounded that George W Bush got a second term and so, for Trump to fail against someone who is hardly a strong candidate seems to suggest the direction America wants to go.

I'd just like to know who exactly is in charge in the UK. Is it Chris Whitty or Marcus Rashford?

Thankfully it's not Boris Johnson, a man who sets himself up to be the butt of the jokes. Frankie Boyle has a few:

A cross between a brain injury and an unmade bed
    A malevolent baked Alaska
The interface of the public school system and foetal alcohol syndrome
What happens when Pixar is infiltrated by the last surviving Nazi war criminal
Oswald Moseley’s soul trapped in a Furby

Those are meant to be funny???

Don't get me wrong, Political leaders are there to be shot at and there is nothing wrong with good jokes about them. I agree that Boris does make himself a target at times ( well quite a lot actually)

But I feel that comedians like Frankie Boyle think of the most outrageous things they can and believe that because they are saying it, it is automatically funny.

    Sometimes it really isn't.

when the status quo has shafted you repeatedly for years then it isn't surprising that people will want to try something different. even if it turns out to be snake oil.
