    Re: RIP Des

Always liked his chat show especially when Freddie Starr was on. Des had a lot to do with keeping Freddie’s career going with his appearances on the show.

I enjoyed Freddie Starr in my childhood days but looking back, he was little more than an anarchic Norman Wisdom.

I now look back on Freddie Starr material and cringe.

You are right though, it was as though Des was his agent.

    RIP Des.

No, he wasn't funny to me either.
He was an all rounder though, he could sing (sort of), compere had his own shows with star guests and had a kind of gentle nature about him which people liked.

He was a Val Doonican type of entertainer, didn’t have any particular strength in any but was easy on the eye

Not my cup of tea, but I understand his appeal as a family entertainer.

I’m sure I remember him playing for the All Star Xi in the Aberfan Disaster appeal game.

Hardly. As a singing act he was bigger than The Beatles in Liverpool. They used to warm up for him and Ringo copied his last name.
