Deep mistrust and resentment of Northern Italy and rightly so. Maradona even asked the Neapolitans to support Argentina over Italy in 1990 World Cup semi final due to the animosity.
Well worth a visit Naples, vibrant, wild and energetic. The whole place can seem like chaos. The surrounding area is stunning too.
Genius on the pitch, fruitcake off it.
RIP
I’m not over exaggerating when I say Maradona seemed to represent the psyche of Naples.
It’s a little different from the polished Northern cities of Milan, Turin and Florence.
When asked about his career if he had any regrets .........
He said.........
Only one .........
'I often think how good I could have been if I never took drugs' 🤣🤣🤣
Didn't fourfourtwo rank him as the best footballer of all time?
His story is a little tragic but a lot more triumphant.
I think the Kapadia Film also strikes that balance.
Ultimately he was a likeable Anti-Hero that was in my eyes at least the greatest football player that I have ever seen.
A vulnerable larger than life genius who snorted coke like a rock star, paid the price for it...but will always have a tremendous legacy.
The best ever in my humble opinion.
On a side note, there must be some sort of link as to how lots of geniuses in all fields, who have bundles of natural talent, also suffer from depression and inner demons.
Maradona George Best, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O’Sullivan Robin Williams Vincent Van Gough Sludge, to name but a few.
The English hate him so he’s fine by me. They tend to forget he scored one of the best goals you’re likely to see in the very same game.
RIP Diego.
What a brilliant player. Easily one of the very best.
RIP Diego.
How fitting (and ironic) that this month’s 442 has an eleven page article on him, it’s almost as if they knew.
Talented player undoubtedly. Great player ? I don’t think so . There was only one greatest of them all and he was Brazilian. He didn’t need to cheat.
