Thread: El Diego RIP

    Re: El Diego RIP

They keep showing the goals v England. Remember watching the game live. After the 1st goal it was as if he thought hed better score another.

The ball is bobbing up on an uneven surface an incredible goal and he was superb all tournament.

86 was all about Maradona. Ive never seen anything like that since and dont think an individuals impact on a tournament will ever match it.

But yes Ronaldo is a better role model.

Nowhere near as good as a player and he himself is a great player.

Which undoubtedly contributed to his on field issues. Being injected with cortisone every match couldn’t have helped his lifestyle.

That foul when the butcher of Bilbao did him has to be one of the most brutal of all time. To come back from that injury and do what he did. Unbelievable.

I dont see anything wrong with his lifestyle. He's a legend, I met him one and I'll never forget that night in Cuba back in 2001

He's treated like a god in Argentina and Naples, he even has his own church dedicated to him in Naples. The issue with Maradona is much deeper than people think. The best thing people could do is a find out about him, his characteristics, the political landscape in Argentina and the class divide between northern and southern Italy, and how he probably did more to unite the poorest and most vulnerable in those regions than any politician ever could.

    Re: El Diego RIP

If the people who are calling him a cheat because of his hand ball goal against England they’re talking through their arse, drug taking issues are another matter but anyone who’s played football at any level who’s not been involved in or scored a dodgy goal and not put their hands up and told the ref to disallow it is a cheat as well. It’s up to the officials and if they award a goal any player worth his salt will take it all day long. I’ve often wondered how the English press would have reacted had, say, Gascoigne been awarded a similar goal, The Sun would have revelled in a ‘Ave That, Gazza Hands It To ‘Em’ type headline, as would the other tabloids. Great, great player, a character of the like football needs more of.

Loved Maradona, read a number of books on him. ‘ El Diego’ being my favourite just for how he describes vaccinating the English.

Have you visited Naples? Interesting place, how they idolise Maradona is quite something. They see him as representing their city, the poor and he was basically the rebel pissing all over the Northern establishment.

It’ll end with them sharing a line of beak and Diego agreeing with Feedy that socialism is an outdated philosophy and that capitalism and the private sector will cure all the world’s ills.

Never been to Naples, would love to go, and maybe travel around Southern Italy. They were seen as shite by the Northern establishment.
