Thread: The old ways can still be best.

The old ways can still be best.

If you have one attacker playing against two or three defenders and the keeper the odds on scoring are not great and even worse if the reliance is on the wingers putting in a good ball. Conversely with more or the same number of attackers in the box than defenders then the chances are much higher.

Even with two attackers the chances are that one will find extra space supported by others who run into the box to get involved rather than play a pass then stand back waiting for a return.

“Give and go, give and go”. “Run a decoy”. “ Don’t effing stand still”. “Keep moving”. “Stop effing ball watching”

    Toshack / Clarke
    Alston / Evans
    Bothroyd / Chopra
Moore / Harris. A way to go yet but hopeful and if not Harris then put somebody else in there.

Why is it that wingers on a run and others always feel the need to take the ball around the defender rather play it past them and chase?

Because fullbacks used to be the cloggers who'd slide tackle you into the stand and do nothing else. Now they are the best athletes on the pitch.
