I would suggest that Harris has focused on bringing in players who are younger and better on the ball and removing players who are older or less skilled from the squad. At the same time, we made the play-offs last year and competing for them again this year. We have a lot of players to replace this summer but if that trend continues then Harris has progressed the club.
Has he done enough? Is he the manager to replace the base of our midfield with three of the four currently departing at end of 2022? Let's aim to review at the end of the year based on a full seasons evidence rather than just after we've lost to the best side in the league.
So, who have we lost from last year’s squad that has made this years squad weaker? Flint had been dropped well before the end of the season. Paterson’s versatility is a miss, Sanderson had been dropped, Mendez-Laing on a good day was very effective, but he didn’t have enough of them and we swapped one reserve keeper for another- I don’t see how Osei-Tutu, Ojo, Wilson, Moore and youngsters breaking through like Harris and Bagan leaves us with a weaker squad.
It’s still starting a new season with many squad changes and new players needing time to settle. Dressing room dynamic changes. Ward is a miss off the bench too. We had more options off the bench post lockdown. Recently we’ve had to rely on the likes of Whyte starting and a bench full of defenders or kids. We literally had no striker option except Glatzel today.
There are also a lot more injuries this season because of no pre season and games coming thick and fast and so if anything the squad needed to be bigger than last season to cope.
Not sure what I meant, was doing something else at the time. Meant to put ballsy. The sentiment remains.
Harris is changing his tune as the season progresses.
Meanwhile others are saying that a 10th place finish after adding more quality to the team that finished 5th is progress.
Changing his tune
His team were just well beaten by the best team in the division what do you want him to say?
At least he didn’t blame everyone but himself like Warnock would have. Warnock would have been making a big deal out of Beundia not getting booked even though the boy ran the show today.
In fact Warnock would have been waxing lyrical about them before kick off. At least Harris waited until after the game before holding has hands up to them being the better team.
Jack now
Just because I don't think that a team that finished 5th should be languishing in mid table.
I tell you what, I will say what I mean and he clear in that Harris is not making progress and is actually going backwards. The board want play offs and ultimately promotion. You've backtracked so much that you are now saying that 10th place is progress.
What will it be next week? Any place between 5th and 24th? Harris is the man but might be a stepping stone but might also fail? Talk about confused.
You also seem to talk about the squad like the players he has at his disposal just happened to Harris and he had no input. If he wanted to keep a lot of those players I am sure he could have. You live and die by your choices in the management game and if we are woefully short in some areas because of players released then sorry but some of the blame for that has to rest with Harris. He said that he was happy with his squad.
Other teams make signings and have injuries too. It is part of football. It isn't something that is exclusive to the City squad.
