Points after 22 games since we've been in the Championship

It may be of some interest.

Clearly the worst was our second season back at this level under Lennie. 32 points for the rest of the season was ok and we survived relatively comfortably. Next comes the disastrous appointment of Trollope in 2016. Third worst was our FA cup final season, then comes this season's poor effort so far.

Our two promotion seasons saw us win most points in a season from this point, but last season's 41 points from our remaining 24 games is the third best over that period. We'd need more than that to consider a playoff push this season and our form is such that I don't see it being remotely possible.

Dave Jones's first two seasons were the only time we won less than 30 points from this point - the 25 points from our last 24 games after being 7 points clear of the table in October is one of the greatest collapses. Missing out in 2008/09 was another sore moment, though we did win 40 points from our last 24.

For me the most remarkable was the improvement initially under Warnock. To go from a pretty dismal position to runners-up was phenomenal. Those first 81 games, from taking over to promotion against Reading, winning 144 points, is a run only bettered by Lennie Lawrence during his first 81 games (149 points) and Malky Mackay (146 points). Fred Stewart would have seen 144 points from the same number of games if we'd had 3 points for a season. Eddie May saw 140 points from his first 81 games, but he does hold the club record for 150 points over the same number of games, just not from the start.

Season by season, roughly, though 2007/08 had a poor start.

Your year by year comment got me thinking and so I decided to have a look at our year by year points over that time.

2002: 94 (Lawrence replaces Cork, miss out in playoffs vs Stoke)
2003: 67 (Division Two leaders fall into the playoffs with a bad run, decent start to life in Division One)
2004: 54 (Side fades in first tier two season in almost a generation, poor start to 2004/05)
2005: 68 (Recovers from relegation battle, Jones brought in, good initial start)
2006: 64 (Poor end to Jones' first season, dynamic start to 2006/07 with club top of the table for 3 months)
2007: 55 (Woeful slump in form, poor start to 2007/08)
2008: 75 (Recovery from relegation positions, FA cup final. Good start to 2008/09
2009: 67 (Another end of season slump costs a playoff place)
2010: 79 (Club finally makes the playoffs, defeat in the final but good start to 2010/11 with side at top for much of the opening months)
2011: 82 (Automatic promotion fades, playoff disappointment, Malky brought in)
2012: 86 (Playoff disappointment, league cup final, indifferent start to Championship winning season)

2017: 91 (recovery after Trollope, start of automatic promotion season)
