We've had a crap midfield for a decade, probably longer, and no manager has ever addressed it.
Tomlin is a good start but he doesn't play enough and we need better than the likes of Pack, Ralls, Vaulks and Bacuna. Always have.
We have no Whittingham/McPhail type midfielder who can slow play down and dictate, everything is a panic.
Pack, Ralls, Vaulks and Bacuna are pretty much the exact same player with varying degrees of skill and natural talent.
We need better than them, way better.
This is a good question.
I'd say we don't have a definitive pattern of play. Are we trying to play a passing game? Or is it slightly disguised hoofball? Harris seems to like a mixed up game of defensive possession and hoof, then panics and just throws every forward on the bench on once we're losing. At the end last night I think we were playing 3-2-5. And we still looked incapable of creating a chance from anything other than a QPR mistake.
The buck stops with Harris. He has to go.
It does, doesn't it. You can't defend it any longer. When opposition fans say we are shit and play a terrible brand of football, they're absolutely right, there can be no counter-argument.
We've slowly amassed, over time, a squad of players who are not comfortable on the ball but who can run a lot. However, if they lose the will to 'bust a gut' for the cause, then all the inadequacies are laid bare to see.
The fanbase take some responsibility, we have too many fans who, over the years, have just wanted the players to roll up their sleeves and 'get stuck in'. We have been content with triers, the fist-pump merchants who simply run around a lot. We easily forgive inadequacies as long as the player puts a shift in... that can only take you so far.
