Are we now congratulating companies for not moving production abroad like many other companies have done?

I thought Brexit was supposed to improve productivity and increase jobs in the UK? Otherwise, what difference does it make to "leavers"?

PM Des Parrot who has had to relocate to Poland in order to keep his business and see what he thinks of the "doom and gloom"

Do feel for Des and I hope he does well in his new venture .

I am determined to look on the bright side and hope good things come from this including jobs .

You or I do not know if this will fail or succeed , therefore as in all matters of life best you look forward and hope for a positive outcome , and best to not always seek a negative , as this stuff and life will drag you down .

Yeah, but you're an idiot LoM.

This isn't good news, it's just news. You're now in a position where you are celebrating a company not leaving the country... How is that good news regarding Brexit?

Good news would be new jobs being created because of Brexit. If the company isn't creating or losing positions then it's just the status quo and irrelevant to Brexit.

I honestly thought even you would recognise the difference.

As usual your discussion degrades itself to brave keyboard name calling ,you should join the Tory party or Trump on twitter as that's how they talk to the world and individuals ,not very grown up are you.

    Des's new venture?

He is living in Poland, not through choice, overseeing hundreds of jobs leaving the UK and said "Those 800 jobs are people who are hurting as a direct consequence, which will ultimately include myself once the exit strategy is complete."

And that's a new venture to you?

Stop it with the high ground bollocks... Nobody is buying it. You've said some completely disgusting things on here over the last few years as people keep pointing out to you (and I also reminded you in another thread earlier today when you tried to make another poster look insensitive).

I'm just being truthful. You are an idiot (and it's not even up for debate) and, even still, I was surprised that you can't see how the Nissan news isn't "good" Brexit news.

For a self proclaimed 'fisherman' on here, always looking for bites, you don't half play the victim if we don't play along.

Even this thread was a failed attempt to wind people up

Maybe you should try a new approach if you want to get some bites or sympathy or whatever it is you're trying to achieve, because your current tact is failing miserably.

I won't give him the credit of knowing what "venture" meant, to be fair.

Even still, he's being insensitive and disingenuous about Des' problems. He obviously couldn't give a flying f**k otherwise he wouldn't start threads like this in which Des has often ultimately posted in to tell us how much his life (and 100s of others he knows personally) have been negatively affected by Brexit.

He's just trying to wind us "socialists" up but is actually only going to upset the ones he portrays to care about.

I think the word for it is c**t.

(Awaiting comments about my terrible language and avoiding my valid points).

Vote Brexit and celebrate a company who would never have contemplated leaving the UK if it had been a yes vote deciding that they will stay here after all - that’s what getting Brexit done means is it?

No ,simply and genuinely just glad Nissan are staying as it gives some hope to the North East .

If you look back at other posters comments there were suggestions that they would leave if the UK left Europe as it would make sense to build cars within the bigger zone of mainland Europe .

I don't know Des or what he does, but I'm guessing a few do , and they are buddies which us good and it is awful he has had to ensure such a move to Poland can't of been easy, really glad he has successfully made that transition I hope it works out for him , business outomes can be very cruel at times as we see during Covid , awful for those business too.

think we have covered this topic on other threads but yes good news for the Sunderland plant as well as safeguarding the 6,000 workers jobs there but also 70,000 jobs in the supply chain too . On top of that the new electric battery factory plant is going to be set up there too which will create thousands of new jobs and supply chains too . Jaguar Land Rover has also invested massively in electric lines in there Midland plants the last year and will start to maximise there production lines this year and are recruiting hundreds of new apprentices and under graduates this year

as a side note just a pity the new electric battery manufacturing plant isn't coming to the Vale of Glamorgan that was being mooted about last year but in a business sense you can see why they chose the North East

seems some people didnt bother reading the article. Nissan will no longer be importing batteries from Japan as one fo the terms of the trade deal is that to qualify for zero tariffs the car has to be 55% derived form Uk or EU, so jobs will be created, but dont let facts get in the way of sniping.

Maybe everybody who was "sniping" read this comment in the article and didn't just assume that jobs would be created:

"Nissan would not confirm if this would mean additional jobs at Sunderland, which is the UK's largest car plant."

Seems a strange thing to do considering it would be amazing PR for them after hanging the Sword of Damocles over people's heads for months on end, doesn't it?

If they do create new jobs, then I'll be back posting in this thread to say I'm sorry.

Re: Well done Nissan No So Good For Brexit Doom and Gloomers

There were many experts on here stating Nissan would leave due to Brexit and the country would be in meltdown, which as was wrong as the NHS and immigration adverts posted by Brexiteers, and I guess sadly some businesses like Des's have been badly effected , however I bet a number of British based companies have suffered from the deeper convergence into Europe.

This was posted as a reply to earlier project fear posts of Nissan potential demise,it suited the narrative , not at any point was there any depth to that reasoning .

Now that has not happened the narrative changes again .

Re: Well done Nissan No So Good For Brexit Doom and Gloomers

I think whether Leavers see this particular issue as a validation of Brexit, those who bemoan our departure from the EU the opposite or if you are like LoM, arch remainer as Herbert Huw (see below), who just wants to be on the winning side, then it masks the wider issue.

    https://www.ccmb.co.uk/showthread.ph...n-To-The-Loons

The EU "free trade" treaty is the first in history to make trade between different countries more rather than less difficult. The governments own analysis and general economist consensus anticipate it will result in a 4-5% reduction in the UKs GDP over 15 years. Much of GDP loss comes from the impact on the Service sector (particularly Financial services) which formed no part of the trade deal.
By comparison the ambitious target for a UK-US trade deal anticipates a 0.16% uplift in GDP as a result.

There may be a range of valid reasons why people think Brexit will be beneficial, control of our laws, seas and borders to control the movement of people into our country amongst them. I have yet to see one which concludes it will make us wealthier as a country in the short, medium or long term though.

Re: Well done Nissan No So Good For Brexit Doom and Gloomers

Has there been any actual news of how the UK has benefitted from Brexit yet? I don't mean nonsense like Nissan not leaving the country, but businesses wanting to come to the UK instead of the EU, trade deals with the UK that are better than we would have had through the EU etc.

If Brexiters are celebrating because a level of shitness that was expected hasn't happened, if that is the benchmark of the success of Brexit, it shows what a shitshow Brexit was in the first place.

Eric i would suggest you repost this in 10 years time

23 days in and you post that

I think things like Covid is far more important at this time than point scoring whether brexit was worth it or not . lets hope for the sake of the UK it is

whatever you voted we got to make it work just a pity we have a blond buffoon in charge right now .hopefully he won't last long

So, for all the people who are losing their livelihoods directly because of Brexit, not Covid, let's be clear on this, what should they have done to make Brexit work?

Re: Well done Nissan No So Good For Brexit Doom and Gloomers

eric anyone who loses there job it's upsetting been there got the t shirt

Brexit has only just happened no one will ever know what the future holds . Maybe it will be a great thing hopefully it will

We won't know until at least 10 years down the line . there will be always be winners and losers . Think positive !

For example I can only think in a manufacturing arena maybe supply chains will all move to the UK rather than abroad will be a massive boost to this country like the battery manufacturing plant that will supply the car industry . The aerospace industry is going electric too and the UK has a massive aerospace industry
