Thread: Would you buy Cardiff City?

    Would you buy Cardiff City?

Someone mentioned in a thread below that if they won a major lottery and had £300m to spare they’d buy Cardiff city. The figure needed to buy the club aside, if you won enough, would you?

Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole myself football seems an easy riches to rags route!

Re: Would you buy Cardiff City?

I'd love to be a Cardiff fan owning my home club.

No , it would cost about £100m to buy and then paying £50 a season to keep them from going under. I'd rather that was someone else's problem. If it were free I would as I reckon I could run it better than Dalman and Choo, and not give it to a manager when he wants to spend £11m on Murphy, £6m on MAdine or £4m for flint and Cunnihgam.

Tell you what...if you put the £100m up to buy it, I'll pay the £50 a season to keep it running.

Didn't someone in the US win $1bn dollars today.

If I had that sort of money I would buy and happily waste a fortune on CCFC knowing I still had a fortune in reserve. But I wouldn't just let shysters waste the cash. I'd be hands on

Didn’t someone once say the only way to get a small fortune was to start with a large one and then buy a football club.

Why would anyone want the grief though? The only certainty is that you are going to be vilified by the supporters, mocked by the ex managers and abused by the players. All that before the press get hold of you.

Buying a club is fine, but it would grind me every week to pay the excessive wages.
An old friend is chairman of a team in about tier 9 or 10 in the English pyramid. Loves it. That would suit me.

Anyway, lottery winnings are taxed at 40% in the US so it's not such a big win.

Yes. Someone in Michigan won $1.05B. The cash option was $776M. After taxes, they walk away with about $460M. I'd have to have $1B in the bank before I considered buying the City. Or at least $500M spare cash that I was with good conscience prepared to piss away.

I’d buy Swansea instead and run them into the ground

As there are no conditions my answer is a simple "yes"

Re: Would you buy Cardiff City?

I would love to own Cardiff City

If I was mega rich I would charge ten quid to get in and run free buses from all over South Wales

Re: Would you buy Cardiff City?

I can remember when just being a millionaire meant you could own a football club.

Who'd own a championship club? The only way to achieve success is to get out of it. And trying to achieve that is a very costly gamble. Just to be competitive seems unsustainable.

We would all do that if we could. Megarich these days means you have to be a multi-billionaire. Which is ****ing ridiculous.

I can see the PL becoming like the NFL in the next 20 years. I think the days of 3 up, 3 down are numbered. Especially once Villa and Leeds establish themselves.

Pretty much knackered already through politics, total commercialisation and increasing bans on anything competitive or physical.
If it weren't for Cardiff City I wouldn't watch it anymore to be honest. I'm not really interested in a lot of little ponces with comedy haircuts, pantomime beards and Viking berserker tattoos posing round a football field and sharing their retarded political views with me.

That's why I like seeing people like Sir Niel and MM occasionally bucking the trend and upsetting the status quo with plain hard work and a bit of clever thinking.

Re: Would you buy Cardiff City?

You'd need mega-amounts of cash to buy and run a club, that's why there are so few private owners these days. But in the old 'Lottery Dream', I reckon I could get Merthyr back into the League.

I can see that happening. It's already getting to the point where very few clubs are equipped to get promoted and sustain life in the PL.

God no, not with our fans, no amount of money would spent would ever be enough for some.

Maybe if I was a multi billionaire.

Re: Would you buy Cardiff City?

If I spent that amount on a club I'd be playing and taking penalties and free kicks.

Id have my face as the sponsor and every other fan would be begging for tan to come back
