Someone on the flight posted (after they were safe on the ground) that they thought in-flight bbqs were a good idea. The food tasted a lot better than the usual food type of offerings

Was reading something yesterday, about how do you feel booking a flight, when all these planes have been idle for so long !!!!!

Will they service (check) them all ?

Yes from a legal standpoint and safety standpoint there is no way they could avoid not doing a check.

Flying is one of the safest forms of transport and a lot of that is down to how vigorous the safety checks have to be.

I think they still have to fly a minimum amount, so airliners will still have been around the block during the lockdown/downturn.

An engine failure! I had several flights on Dan Air ,back in the day their only pre flight checks were " got the gaffer tape skipper". As for my one experience of 1980's areoflot then I am still requiring therapy.

I was standing next to the taxiway in Gateick one morning inabout 2003/4 when the Russian National Team aeroflot aircraft was leaving. It had brought the team from (I think) Dynamo Mscow to play Arsenal. As it taxi'd up the strip the front wheel mounting collapsed and the nose hit the tarmac.
Everybody had to evacuate down the chutes.
It was an old Tupolyev 154 or something similar.
A friend of mine flew out of east Berlin to Turkey on holiday with aeroflot. He swore never again!! That was when the Soviet Union was still running things but apparently they haven't improved much.

The only airline I’ve traveled on where the entire passenger cabin broke into loud applause and whistles when the plane landed

Dan Air was a great airline. I used to fly Belfast to Newcastle and back once a month for about 2 1/2 years. The cabin crew knew all the regualr travellers and I could squeeze in 6 (free) minature gordons and tonic on the flight to Newcastle. I've actually landed with my drink in my hand because the hostess knew I hadn't finished it lol. The aircraft were all prop jobs so allegedly better at glidng in to land if the engines stopped

One morning the flight from Newcastle landed in fog and the Aldergrove International ground control couldn't find it. It turned out the pilot had put it down on a disused RAF strip about a mile way from the airport. They had to send buses to rescue the passengers. Thankfully I wasn't on that flight

I flew with Dan Air when i was 17. Not through choice though. Got completely off my tits in Benitses, Corfu and missed my Brittania airways flight back to Cardiff as i was wasted in departures with some other idiot. Stayed at Corfu Airport for 6 hours, could've been 6 days, i don't really know. Got offered a flight to Glasgow. Told them to **** off as Glasgow was the same distance from cardiff as Corfu is Went back to Benitses with no money, no clothes and no accomodation, didn't even tell my mother where i was. Slept on the beach for a week and met up with two lads from Naples, who were artists in the way of thieving and blagging.

Anyway, the Greek authorities got hold of us and put us on a Dan Air flight to Manchester. We were stinking, in shorts, T shirt and flip flops. Got to Manchester airport and ended up playing cards with some down and outs for those sweets, Skittles. At the Airport was a band called Candy Flip, i threw a skittle at him and he freaked out, one of the piss heads chinned him I shouldn't laugh.

    Dan Air were very good!

Flipped some candy at Candy Flip. I'm surprised it didn't catch on

I fly all over the world, probably flown 300-400 times, no issues. Then last year the flight I was on had to make an emergency landing in Düsseldorf, because a door hadn’t sealed properly. Bloody scary, coming into land, fire tenders both sides of the runway. Everything turned out ok but it’s very unnerving

I was on a B747 flight from Los Angeles when I saw about 4 fire engines following the aircraft when it landed at Heathrow. The plane ran out of power on the runway and the speculation was the plane had run out of fuel. All I could hear above the applause was the Captain telling us it was our lucky day.

Flying back to Dulles Airport, Washington DC from Heathrow New Year’s Eve 2003 on a BA flight.

We were joined by fighter jets who escorted us up and down the Eastern Seaboard for a couple of hours (to lose fuel I think).
We eventually landed and had to stay on the plane for another 4/5 hours once we had reached the tarmac.

Couldn’t use the toilet or anything without permission.

Eventually let out row by row with counter terrorism police flashing torches and AR’s in our faces as we disembarked.

It turns out that there was a dodgy passenger on the flight manifest that shouldn’t have been allowed on in the first place.

I once flew with Uganda Airlines from Entebbe to Nairobi back in the 1990's. Let's just say it was the experience of a lifetime. One thing I particularly remember were passengers walking up and down the gangway chatting to their friends as the plane was taking off! No "fasten your seat belts stuff" there. I trust things have improved since then.

They're going to start grounding 777s now. I never liked them anyway. Trans Atlantic flights on two engines make me a little nervous.

I agree but unfortunately that is the future. The demise of the 747 coupled with the fact the A380 is no longer favoured by airlines due to excessive fuel costs means that all long haul flights will be on two engined planes.
