As someone said on another City messageboard, if that pitch had been produced for a county Championship match, the home team would have had points deducted for an unfit pitch - there was a lot of fuss about the pitch for the last test, but India’s number eight Ashein proved you could bat on it.

Agreed. India deserved to win both tests, and the pitch in the second test was poor but frankly, the pitch in this test was an absolute disgrace. It was fun today but nobody could bat on it. England have been absolutely abysmal in the last two tests. First time Broad and Anderson have played together and neither took a wicket.

Second day of a test match.

    Root 5 - 8 in 6 overs.

    Decent wicket?

Ridiculous. Kevin Petersen as usual way off the mark and attention seeking.

having watched the highlights twice last night i dont think it was the pitch most of the wickets seemed to come from bal that stayed straight and the england batsman were expecting them to turn sideways might be wrong just think england were completely out thought by india

How would that logic work with Joe Root a part time bowler taking 5-8.

India needed to win this series by 2 clear matches to qualify for the World Test Championship, after losing the first one they made the decision to make poor pitches. The thought their bowlers batsmen would cope with a complete minefield better, and they have.

Is home advantage to that extent good for the game in general?

To address you point about the straight ball, if the average ball is turning by more than 5% the straight one will get you because you are playing for turn. It is why seam bowlers throw in a crossed seam delivery when the ball is swinging.
