    Re: Live Bristol riots

For about 44 minutes it's just people standing around looking at a police station. Some reports of pepper spray being used and graffiti on a police van but otherwise just a crowd of people. Then a police van gets set on fire but even after that it appears that the vast majority just want to witness the event.

Surprisingly, no looting reported as yet. With non-essential shops shut there must be a large pent-up demand for expensive trainers surely.

There are suggestions this new police and crime bill are not going to give people as much right to do that

If we lose the right to protest then this country has become a joke, a police state. They love to try and sneak these things through. It reminds me of the criminal justice bill back in the day.

    Thatcher stopping picketing

But letting the police charge horses into miners at Orgreave

Then the BBC showing miners fighting with police and throwing missiles , then being dispersed by police

When it was the miners who were attacked by the police on horseback and then the miners fought back

The Battle Of Orgreave is a very interesting watch

Always the same. Scruffy student types that protest about anything thinking it's cool.
Shame the police can't use rubber bullets on them and anyone caught get any benefits or grants they claim stopped.

the legislation seems very rushed and Ill thought through.

potentially 10 years in prison for damaging a statue?
police can decide when protests begin and end and can arrest and fine people if they are too noisy.
there an a real danger that these new powers will be completely abused.

Sitting on top of a couple of trains might look quite tame in a few years compared to the effects of climate change.
