    Boring quiz question

    Two parter:

    1. Against which 3 current league teams, where we have won in the league or cup, have we gone the longest without an away win?

    2. Which 3 current league teams, who have won at Cardiff in the league or cup, have gone the longest without a win in Cardiff?

Spurs (1954) and Everton (1926) are right. Liverpool would have been fourth in that list.

Villa is right for the second one (1974). There are two sides that have gone longer without a win in Cardiff. One hasn't won here since 1938, a side I thought we would have played much more often.

No. Fifth on that list (1961)

I've "cheated" and looked up the 1938 one, I think it must be Cheltenham who won here in the Welsh Cup that year.

I'm just wondering, could Villa be an answer to both questions? We've not won there in my City supporting lifetime

That I didn't know as my database hasn't got Welsh cup results. That demotes Villa, then. There's another side that beat us in 1938.

As for Villa being the answer to the other, that's right (1954).

I'll add that the side in question managed a cup win on penalties at Ninian Park that is usually discounted from the stats.

My other candidate was Exeter who I was sure had won here in some Mickey Mouse cup in the eighties or nineties, but your explanation means it must be them - not a clue as to the other though.

Swindon last won here in 1971.

The side that hasn't won in Cardiff since New Year's Eve 1938, unless I've missed something, is Newport County. They got through an FAW Premier Cup tie on penalties in 2008 after a 1-1 draw. But in all that time they've not won here in the league, English or Welsh cups.

I know I'll get stick for this comment, as I do from my County mates, but Newport County are not the same team. They are a new club , like Accrington Stanley, AFC Wimbledon and a few others yet claim the history of the original club. That should wind up the County lot.
