Re: Pubs in Wales reopening fully 17th May...

First Minister Mark Drakeford said: "It is my assessment that the hospitality sector - bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes - will be able to open indoors from May 17, together with all other tourist accommodation, indoor entertainment and attractions."

Plaid accused him of rule by dictat some time ago and this statement puts collective government decisions straight in the bin.

Thought it was a medical numbers decision, not an individual choice ?

I hope you get the irony of what you've just posted.

You said Duckford listened to the numbers, when he is clearly just after votes

It could be looked at two ways

    1) They are following the numbers. Things are better than expected so they can open more, quicker.

    2) Oh sh!t, an election is coming and no one likes us because we are unlocking pubs, gyms, etc slower than England. Lets open them before people vote

wow you are reading a lot into one word choice there. some people on here seem determined to see anything Drakeford does in a completely negative light, even though he has demonstrably fared better than the lying cheat that is in charge in England

Wasn’t today the normal three weekly review that the Senedd has done for the past twelve month? So it was the normal time to announce changes whether relaxing or more stringent. Apparently Wales are doing pretty well on things Covid related at the moment compared to others yet some are still complaining that they can’t get a pint when there’s far more needier places that need reopening. It would be interesting if the ones moaning at Mark (well they call their idol Boris) would post a list of things that they would have done completely (not just a little bit) different to the way things have been done by the Senedd. While I’m not in full agreement with all that’s gone on in Wales, I’m happier that I’m living here rather than England.

I don't think the argument is about the relaxation of the rules, it is more about the convention that Ministers do not use ministerial announcements for party political purposes during an election, and they are implying it is an announcement for party political gain because he previously said, (despite good numbers even then) that they would not be allowed to open until the end of may at the earliest. They see that as moving the goal posts to show the labour administration on a good light to would be voters who like to go to the pub. There are one or two such people in Wales surprisingly.
Personally I cannot imagine why they would think such a thing.

nothing political in your post then. That's a relief I thought for a moment you were going to taint your unblemished middle of the road credentials.
I put emphisis on one word because it appears to back up what many members of the Senedd said about they way he was making rules and decisions during the pandemic. The words used were 'rule by dictat' implying that the Senedd were given no opportunity to discuss or approve anything before a decision was made. And clearly as he only ever announces anything every 3 weeks there should have been opportunity. As I mentioned before I know several people who have worked close to him and they all agree that he is a bully an autocrat and a not-very-nice man. So him making all the calls would sit with that.
The other thing is the man himself. He is a pro-communist hard left momentum supported politician who believes that the state should control everything in peoples day to day lives. I said before it would have been better if Carwyn Jones were still 1st Minister.
I accept that he has made some good decisions but there is always the underlying doubt that he has made them for the wrong reasons, often just to be different to England, and he has not had enough consideration for business and the people who's livelihoods depend on them, and the damage every extra day does to the Welsh economy.
But hey, that's just my opinon, just 1 vote!

Should anyone be surprised? Pubs are a long standing part of traditional British life, part of communities for hundreds of years. People actually enjoy going to the pub.
    I know! Mad isn't it!!!

The weather is helping that, let’s face it, it’s been the longest winter ever known to mankind. I’m all for going to a pub but I can’t be arsed with booking time slots, filling out details on arrival, pre ordering drinks via an app and all that guff....

So how many more people do you think he should have allowed to die so as not to hurt the welsh economy?

I've been to four different pub gardens after four different walks and:

    1. I didn't book a time slot with any of them
    2. I didn't fill out any details on arrival
    3. I didn't pre-order drinks via an app.

In three of the pub gardens our orders were taken via table service and payment was taken by a remote card reader. Drinks were delivered at the table.
in the remaining case I went to where a till was i.e. a few yards away

It was a far more pleasurable experience in each case than standing indoors at a bar and trying to work out who should be served first - and then transporting the drinks outside without spilling them.

    Cheer up you grumpy so-and-so

2 pubs Ive seen ( infact I helped finish the woodwork for a mate on one ) have just setup the pub outside, one has a row of 20 sheds ( with the doors removed ) and about 20 picnic tables with a temp bar ( with all some fridges on a pallet, which gets wheeled in through the main doors at night and 4 drafts ) setup up in the car park ( it literally is the pub just in the car park ) the other down the canal just has maybe 30 picnic tables outside and you just order from the server who comes around occasionally

both look like they are doing a roaring trade

The last three pubs I went to, the pen and wig, the Heath and the Crwys were all like I stated....bollox to that spending 30 minutes getting in and getting a drink....the discovery was a bit different, we just rocked up sat outside and they came and served us. If they can do that I’m in....city pubs might be slightly different
