    FT: HUNGARY 0 - 3 PORTUGAL.

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

    • This is the third meeting between Hungary and Portugal at a major tournament after World Cup 1966 and Euro 2016. The two previous games have produced 10 goals (3-1 to Portugal in 1966, 3-3 in 2016).
    • Portugal have never lost against Hungary (won nine, drew four).

    Hungary

    • Hungary have qualified for back-to-back editions of the European Championship, having only played in two of the previous 14 tournaments (1964, 1972).
    • Hungary remained unbeaten in the group stages in their last appearance (won one, drew two in 2016), but have won just two of eight matches in the competition (drew two, lost four).
    • Only two of Hungary's 11 goals in the European Championship have come in the first half (seven in the second half, two in extra time).
    • Centre-back Willi Orban was Hungary's top scorer in qualifying - all three of his goals came from set-pieces.

    Portugal

    • Portugal are taking part in their eighth European Championship and will attempt to become only the second team to win back-to-back titles after Spain (2008, 2012).
    • Portugal are the only team to reach the knockout stages in each of the last six editions, a run stretching back to 1996. Portugal have always progressed from the group stages (seven out of seven).
    • Not including penalty shootouts, Portugal are unbeaten in their last 11 games at the European Championship, with their last two defeats in the competition coming against Germany (June 2008 and June 2012). Only Spain have embarked on a longer run without a defeat in the history of the tournament: 14 games, from 2008 to 2016 (won 11, drew three).

Not the best game so far, lots of “simulation” going on which doesn’t help.

Covid 19 not reached Hungary at all by the looks

Every Portugal player looks to pass backwards or sideways every time.

    Boring

While it’s good to see a full house cheering their team on, this system of deciding venues is unfair and arbitrary. Some sides have three home games and, to use Wales as an example, some have to play two matches three thousand miles away (one of which is, to all intents and purposes,an away game when it comes to crowd support) and the third one is a genuine away game - it’ll be an outstanding achievement if we qualify from this group.

Two goals in the last few minutes for Portugal makes the game seem more straightforward than it actually was.

    Make that three late goals!

Ronaldo looked offside for the third.
    I assume it was checked?

    More records for the man.

    Phenomenal player.

    Edit:
Thought Hungary played well and the scoreline a little harsh on them.

    Portugal very lucky
    Deflected goal
    Pelanty I’ve seen not given
    And a close offside

    Lucky as in 2016

Did you see that Hungaria who got a brush of a hand across his cheek and chin...
and went down holding his forehead as if he'd been clubbed with a pick handle!
    Ridiculous.

Some are seeing some poetic justice in Orban's mistake leading to Hungary losing.
