    CARDIFF SET TO SIGN LUTHRA

Cardiff City are set to sign England youth goalkeeper Rohan Luthra, Sky Sports News understands.

The Bluebirds have already brought in midfielder James Collins and Republic of Ireland U21 international Mark McGuinness ahead of the new campaign, but have needed to sign a new goalkeeper after releasing youngsters Bradley Stewart and Jamie Cogman.

They are now poised to complete an historic deal to sign highly-rated teenager Luthra, who Sky Sports News exclusively revealed earlier this month was leaving Crystal Palace after more than a decade at the club.

Luthra made history last summer when he penned his first senior deal with Palace, becoming the first British South Asian goalkeeper to sign a professional contract with a Premier League club.

The 6ft 5in Punjabi stopper now looks set to become the first British South Asian goalkeeper to join a Sky Bet Championship club on professional terms.

Luthra played alongside England internationals Bukayo Saka and Callum Hudson-Odoi at junior level and made his debut in goal for Crystal Palace's U18s aged just 15.

That's an interesting one. Presumably to go into the development side rather than in contention for the first team initially

It does beg the question though - when was the last time a goalkeeper went from our youth setup into the first team?

In fairness, this kid has ben through Palace's youth set-up, not City's, so there's hope.

I think the Philippines count as east Asia, south Asia usually refers to the Indian subcontinent

You are right but it's a curious distinction, isn't it?: countries in Asia further south than India not being considered as South Asia.

He's Punjabi - which is a Sikh-majority area of India, close to the Pakistan border.
