Interesting article this, I'm sure he's right about the bloke watching the game not being typical of English people, but it seems to me he represents a fair size rump of Englishmen (they're nearly all men I'd guess) who I sometimes like to think is representative of those from over the border.

Would you see Scots, Welsh and Irish behaving in the same way in England while watching their team? I daresay you would, but I don't think, proportionally, you'd see so many of them.

That said, it strikes me that it is a lot easier for those in the other nations in the UK to behave patriotically when it comes to their particular part of the "united kingdom", because there is a link between far right politics and English patriotism that doesn't exist in the Welsh, Scottish and Irish versions of it - the cross of St. George conjures up an image that the Welsh Dragon and Scottish Saltire does not.
