He has been at the league one clubs he's played for and now we need to see if he can step up the championship/step up with us. He was always going to be a late bloomer but no one is excited about him yet.

Should be "bread & butter" to him

It cost us £2m to sign Gavin Whyte from Oxford and he's back playing for them a couple of years later.

That's a bargain by Cardiff City standards, when you consider some of the expensive dross we've signed over the years

Who was that so called centre forward fella we signed from Bolton ?
    Just remembered, Gary Madine

I can only assume he must be on a good wage and Oxford see his as a big signing. I hope Watkins isn't his replacement.

Please, please, please.. NOT Marley Watkins!

I have long followed the Bristol City forum (OTIB) and they couldn't wait to get rid of him.

League 1 is his level. Another wasteful Warnock signing.

Just read the WOL story and there were loads of comments complaining that we were short on wingers so it was crazy to let him go. I can't remember us playing wingers with MM. If it frees us enough funds for us to loan a creative midfielder (and not sign Watkins) it makes sense for all involved really.

Some of the comments also claimed that Gavin Whyte was our best player in pre-season! Really?

Mick McCarthy explains why Whyte was allowed to leave.

"If I've got Josh Murphy, Ryan Giles, Kieffer Moore, James Collins, Rubin Colwill, Isaak Davies, Tommo (Tomlin), Mark Harris all in those forward places, he's not going to play.”

“We have a big squad and have strength in depth, so I could not guarantee him a game.”

"So for his good he needs to go out and play and if he can go and have another good season, then maybe he can come back here and play."

Sounds quite scathing - Some of the decisions by Mick have been a bit iffy?

Very surprising loan though - how he's not cover for full/wing back is beyond.

    Hardly scathing. Just brutal honesty.
