    Bolsonaro

Is he on the way out?

a very popular former president Lula is running against him, and appears to have a sizeable lead.

Lula was in prison on trumped up charges (raised by the bolsonaro administration) and then excluded from running for president because of those charges previously, but they have all been quashed.

Apparently Glenn Greenwald's investigations were critical in getting him released.

If Bolsonaro thinks he is going to lose will he do something desperate? he's already had this guy locked up once to get him out of the way.
it could be an interesting time in Brazil

The fact that there is still a question about whether this is the end for Bolsonaro says so much about the current state of the world - I’d say Brazil has to be a serious candidate for the country which has dealt with Covid the worst and he was there at the front driving things, he has tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of deaths on his hands.

Peru has a far worse death rate than Brazil. More than double.

Ask yourself why the media don't talk about it.

    Re: Bolsonaro

it is often said that dictators don't start out planning to become one, they just end up in a situation where they HAVE to remain in power to avoid spending the rest of their life in prison. eg Putin.
I wonder how close to that situation we are with Bolsonaro?
he's already tried to have his main opponent locked away on trumped up charges, and as the election gets closer you have to wonder if he will get more desperate.

    Re: Bolsonaro

Looks like Lula will win, but pretty close and closer than you would expect in what will be a very divided country.

Unfortunately I can imagine the losing side will challenge the result if it's narrow

    Edit*

Looks like it's going to be Lula 52% Bolsanaro 48%.

We had thousands of people marching on the streets for a re-vote when that happened to us..
