If so, was Ashley supposed to say that he was honoured that he should have been approached but that it would be an unacceptable selfish deed if he took up the invitation to join the squaf? Back in the day, it was quite easy to ‘find’ a grandparents birth certificate, and back then Williams thought he had no chance of playing for England.
