No you process them for asylum and then decide if you let them in or not. Which is the legal and correct way to handle migrants trying to enter a country.

the French have already stated that they will try to prevent boats from launching, and stop the criminal gangs, but will not stop boats that have already launched as that could be dangerous and lead to loss of life.

People seeking asylum here are made of largely of people from Afghanistan, syria, Iraq and Iran.
The U.K. already takes less than France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Maybe if we set up a more official way of seeking asylum in the U.K. rather than ignoring it and trying not to do our bit we wouldn’t need a callous **** of an MP trying this PR bullshit.

I would agree that the UK should take it's fair share of migrants and I agree in humanitarian rescues of people in danger (notable how few mentioned the UK's airlifts from Kabul).
The point is that you cannot have a system that allows anyone to enter without any checks or controls and in a way that empowers and emboldens the trade in human trafficking.
The current system is NOT working. Something needs to change. At least now you have come up with some ideas instead of just insulting me, so thats progress at least.

Seeking asylum is legal and there are checks. If the U.K. government this system isn’t working maybe they should propose a solution that isn’t just a PR line for their follows who have a weird obsession with immigration despite there being a shit ton of things that are more pressing issues for us.
It's highly unlikely that how the media are reporting this story is an accurate state of affairs.
The point is, this is an issue that needs solving. It's a problem, it serves no one. Doing nothing, or retaining the status quo is not an option.
It's not for you to decide what the countries issues are. Different people have different concerns. But otherwise I am pleased you recognise the current system isn't working.
Now finding a sensible, humane and fair route forward is critical. That may include some tough talking to try and clamp down on a trade that is an exploitation in misery run by criminal gangs.
Defending the current situation is NOT defending migrants. It's taking the wealthiest, fleecing them of £3,000 to hand to criminal gangs.
