Some people just love the pain. Let's go back down to league 2, scrap it out with our old school rivals if any of them are still in business. Local Derby with county. Should be fun.

Leeds spent about 10 years in the championship after coming back up from league one before finally making it to the premier League. despite being comfortably one of the, if not the best supported sides in the division for all of that time.
their income is massive compared to ours, they should have been competitive a lot sooner than they were.
there is nothing to suggest that a spell in league one did anything to help them towards their current situation. in fact it probably delayed their progress

How is their income massive compared to ours?
Outside of the difference in crowds and with?

Genuine question, especially with us having two lots of parachute payments in the time you mention that they were outside the Premier League?

sorry I should have been clearer, their commercial income is massive compared to almost any championship club, it's not as big as your typical parachute payment, but it is not far off that. taking parachute payments out if the equation they'd probably have a 10-15 million advantage over most teams, which really should start to count when it is year on year.
think what we could do with an extra 15 million this season

But we did have a few installments of parachute payments in that time, plus the money we should have made while the sun shone in the two Premier League seasons yet we're as far behind Leeds as we have been in the last however many years (10 certainly).

All this with our great owner and board...

Leeds attendances fluctuated quite a bit during the time, where they were as low as 8th in the Championship attendance table on more than one occasion.

After they won promotion from League 1 they were right in the mix for the second automatic promotion spot in March until an end of season collapse saw them finish 7th. After that season they finished in the bottom half 6 out of the next 7 seasons.

yes we wasted our two promotions massively, but what we are doing NOW seems to have more thought behind it.
getting rid of the remaining high earners
    stabilising in mid table
bringing youth players through while we do the above 2 things are all exactly what I think we should be doing now.
other clubs in this situation have thrown good money after bad and got into a real mess so at least we aren't doing that
we've made some very difficult decisions on some players and we will probably have to get used to a few bad results this season and perhaps next.
