I find it interesting that the SPD find just under 26% of the vote "a mandate to govern"

The current German government is an alliance of SDP (the major party of the left) and CSU/CDU (the major entity from the right).
In very crude terms it's theoretically akin to a Conservative/Labour coalition.......
