The Roop....affectionately known as The Orchard in years gone by due the rough cider on offer.

Are there ANY pubs left in Splott? At one time, it was like there was one on every corner.

I used to work at the nearby ASW (GKN) steelworks. I always remember calling in the Grosvenor after a 2-10pm shift for a quick pint, before getting the works' bus home. It prompted me to look online to see if it was still there (yeah, I know ) and I came across this article....

The local councillor says there is only one pub in the area, and that article dates back to 2010!

that's the same in a lot of places. in Victorian times and earlier there was a pub on every corner and others on the street as well in some areas.
some of the new housing areas they build don't have any pubs to walk to. if you live the Asda side of pontprennau you've got a much longer walk to find the nearest few pubs than anyone who used to live in temperance town before they knocked it down.
in reality we all live in temperance towns these days

The only one I can think of is The Cottage, on Sanquahar Street. There's also the Clifton, and the Royal Oak, but do they count?
Loads have disappeared around that area.

7 Years i lived in Splott, Not sure I went in the Tred, always looked a bit rough for me but played darts for the Carlillion (spelling) club on Splott road bridge. Think i used to go in a pub on Habershon Street right hand side Adamsdown side of Splott road

The Roath Carlylian Club has been The Old Illtydians Club for a number of years now. The other pub you mention I imagine is The Cardiff Arms on Railway St (the pub, the recently retired Coomber had before The Canton), sadly, now a block of flats as is The Grosvenor, Ruperra & The Moorlands. Apart from Splott Cons & Fleur’s (not The Fleurs as some call it, it was named after the woman who owned it, although the sign outside now reads The New Fleurs) Splott is moving towards being the new Temperance Town.

correct but the 'clientele' () were 90% splott though, if the police were to throw a net over The Tred on a Friday night they could've solved 80% of crimes in the city..

Sunday nights on the Special VAT in the Tred back room made Monday mornings unforgettable (or was it forgettable ). I don’t think the Tred shutting benefitted the police at all. All human life was contained there under one roof, most probably became like a game of mob when it shut

Special VAT . Jesus Christ that stuff should have been made illegal. If you poured a pint of that next to a pint glass full of 4 star petrol you would not tell the difference with the vapour it used to give off.
When Bob Pinches had the Tred he used to ration us to only 4 pints each. Even that was enough to turn people into someone from another planet. When people drunk that the place turned into the pub like the one in The Boys from the Blackstuff.
