I think the McCann's are pretty 'ordinary' people..

Not sure of her involvement but nothing alleged about it, they were guilty of war crimes but no charges. Also guilty of inadequacies in the original investigation by the military plod.

Lets not forget that Betty Windsor (affectionately known as mummy to our prince Andy) is footing the pauper's legal fees.

Hiding behind the loophole of a dead sex trafficker? Stay classy, Andrew

Edit: Posted in the wrong thread - or is it really? They're all a bunch of shysters.

Edit Edit: What day is it?

Edit Edit Edit: Will post in the other one too. Take that you pesky Windsors.

I don't recognise the honours system or the monarchy

Neither do I, but unfortunately the b*ggers recognise us.

I notice that Starmer signs his emails 'Keir' when he wants to present himself as an 'ordinary' bloke.

Some Labour Party members refer to him as "cur".

Actually, just realised I'd spelled his name wrong too! What kind of a name is Keer anyway?

I don't think being a controversial figure should bar someone from being knighted tbh. We don't really want to live in such an anodyne world do we? By definition, nearly all figures will be controversial or have some enemies.

I'm okay with it. But more than anything, does it matter that much? I'm not opposed to the honours system, but I don't pay great attention to it either.
Didn't you say that you were once a member of the respect party, or that you supported them? Apologies if I have that wrong

I was. When they were formed in 2004 I was a member for a year. Was one of (checks wikipedia) 386 people who voted for Raja Gul-Raiz in Cardiff Central in 2005.

I marched three times against the Iraq War - twice in Cardiff and once at that massive march in London, so back then I hated Blair, viewed him as destroying Labour and all that.

In time, I recognise he saved Labour, and irrespective of all the usual pro's and con's of office he was a competent PM. But yeah, Iraq is the big shadow. Nonetheless, someone of his statue being knighted - I think that's fine.

I believe this appointment was direct from the Queen, not through normal political channels

Does any other regime have a system of "honours" involving the granting of titles on Earth like the UK?

Nah! He’s still destroying labour just by proxy. His Dark Lord is the sidekick of his disciple Starmer. Let’s not gloss over the fact that Liz has just knighted a war criminal and murderer.
