You'd think that, but it works for both sides. The broadcasters get people tuning in from the start, hoping to see some big name show up, and make a fool of themselves. And the 'big names' know they only have to fend off the questions for ten minutes. If they get into difficulties, they know they can just bluster, and kill time until the bell rings. It's a win-win, except that the viewers are left frustrated.
