Wembley could easily have seen something similar last summer at the Euros final.

    Awful news, the poor people.

There was also a problem at Leeds v Newcastle on the weekend apparently, as the turnstiles failed and no one was there to help. Not sure whether they are old (it being Elland Road) or electronic ones.

The Elland road thing is senseless. modern electronic turnstiles are designed to fail to free spin, and in my memory the mechanical ones can be unlocked and pushed aside, as for example when the crowd is leaving a ground.

A terrible tragedy, but the game goes ahed, and so do the rest of the Africa Cup games. Too many commitments to be met, they say. As for the crush, radio 5 is reporting that only one turnstile was open on one of the stands. People were crushed to death trying to get in, and there was just one turnstile open. What on earth was going on there?

    Just read about it.
    How dreadfully sad.
