    Playing on Wednesday's

We always played our midweek games on Tuesdays from memory.

Wednesday games are often scheduled after one of the teams has played the previous Sunday. That’s happened with City several times this season. There have been a number of other games on Wednesdays for no apparent reason, though.

    Re: Playing on Wednesday's

Excluding European and Welsh cup ties, in our history we've played 364 times on a Wednesday and 572 times on a Tuesday. Tuesday games have become more popular since the 1980s. Since the 1980/81 season we've played 483 Tuesday games but only 125 Wednesday fixtures. The last season where we didn't play on a Wednesday at all was the 1997/98 season. We have to go back to the 1956/57 season where we didn't play on a Tuesday at all.

Some other boring stats about Tuesdays and Wednesdays for you.....

    Home games - Away games
    Tuesday: 269-303
    Wednesday: 187-177

    Home win percentage:
    Tuesday: 48.7%
    Wednesday: 56.1%

    Overall win percentage:
    Tuesday: 34.6%
    Wednesday: 41.5%

    Goals for average:
    Tuesday: 1.26
    Wednesday: 1.43

Average shoe size of the front row of the Grandstand:
    Tuesday: 8.2
    Wednesday: 7.6

    Exactly that.

Playing on a Wednesday is weird. Doesn't feel right.

Not difficult with Excel. Took me about 10 minutes. Yes, I have a spreadsheet with all of our games on it.

I seem to remember as a kid all the way through the 70s, that Wednesday was our home night. All the European games were Wednesday including Real Madrid.

How long did it take to make the spreadsheet?

Wednesdays were always our home midweek night when I was a kid, 7.15pm kick off very often too.

A few hours over a couple of days during lockdown. Copy and paste mostly and checks with other sources. All I've got are dates, games, scores and manager. One day I might try and include scorers and attendances but such info is so sketchy.

    Re: Playing on Wednesday's

Another interesting midweek fact is that the standard kick off time until the mid 60s was 7.15pm. It seemed to be 7.30 until the mid 80s when it became the current 7.45

Also the standard Saturday afternoon kick off time at Ninian Park was 3.15 until the 1960s, though it was brought forwards during the winter before floodlights were installed.

Most of the information you would want can be found in the history section on the Cardiff City Forum site at https://cardiffcityforum.com/history/ccfcspr.htm

Between 1970/71 and 1979/80 we played 54 games on a Wednesday and 40 on a Tuesday. Perhaps you've erased the bad memories of those Tuesday games in the 70s - we won 2, drew 8, lost 30 and failed to score in 21 of them!! By contrast, on Wednesdays in the 70s we won 27, drew 12, lost 15 and failed to score in 9.

Yes, I know it's a statistical anomaly and there's absolutely no rhyme nor reason for it!

Thanks. I have this thanks to another poster on here. It's a huge shame that the project was never continued.
