Thread: Worst pitch you've ever played on?

  1. #1

Worst pitch you've ever played on?

For me it's Llanelly Hill, near Abergavenny.

One of the best drainage systems ever due to the slope I must add, but the rest....
On a fine day anywhere else, it would be sleeting up there.
Gale force winds were more than welcomed by the 14 brave diehards.
Kick the ball out of touch and it would end up up 3 mile down the road in Clydach.

For bog conditions Crickhowell was a big winner.

BP Sports Ground, Sully (as it was at the time), a game of two halves due to the hurricane wind.

Sully’s ground, Burnham Avenue. Wind & slope.

Blaenrhondda for that bloody imposing mountain.

Bonvilston, for the tin bath instead of showers.

Ely Racecourse for the old army huts changing rooms and having to run to another block for a dribble of a shower.

Heath Park, the old farmhouse/barn for changing rooms.

Coronation Park under lights with Cardiff Boys, great for the wingers as they only shone on the touch lines.

Must be loads more......loved it all though, can’t beat playing.

Seems like you played a bit, SP? Any good?
Big regret of mine is not carrying on after I left school.
I'd give anything for a game now

Edgar street late 70's. zero grass ploughed field. Herefordshire county cup finals supposed to be showcase games.

I'm not sure why, but I have you down as an 8, Des?

I'm in a minority. I preferred to watch football rather than play.

A few on here are obviosly craving their playing days. Does anyone fancy a crack at Walking Football?

If you are over 50, even over 60 then there's competitive football out there but at a more leisurely pace. Don't think that it's not competitive though and there's also the chance of representing Wales if you're good enough.

Could you bollocks. It's always freezing and the hail (never rain) comes in horizontally.

Give me a quagmire in the rain any day over playing on the side of a mountain like that.

Apologies for the blatant plug but those who enjoyed playing might relate to and enjoy this …

I used to hate Ely Racecourse. Blowing a gale tipping down with rain and a mile walk back to the changing rooms for a cold shower

Do you play? I think it looks brilliant. Do you ever have issues with people cheating by breaking into a jog?

Football if overwhelmingly the best participator sport in the world. My dad can have a game with my kid despite the 70 year age gap. And my kid can have a game with his peers. All you need is a ball. What a sport.

I've played cricket there in the summer, it was bitterly cold, stood in the field I did think it'd be lovely on a decent day!
