    Re: Shane Warne dead

Goodness me - was just reading that. He was just 52.

What more can be said other than the sport has lost the greatest spin bowler of all time.

    RIP

Arguably the greatest bowler not just spin.

The Mike Gatting miracle ball was something else.

    RIP.

I think he may have been someone who lived life to the full, but Jeez, you don’t expect to hear things like that - I was only watching him being interviewed by Nasser Hussain and Robert Key last week.

He showed his brilliance and class in a great, but ageing, Aussie team in 2005 when, if anything, he raised his game as he realised this was finally an England side that could give them a real run for their money.

If you’re talking about true greats of the game, he’s up there with Bradman, Sobers etc - as Major says, arguably the best bowler ever, definitely the best spinner ever in my book.

    RIP

    Hard to argue with really.

The film Shane on Amazon Prime is well worth a watch. His influence on the IPL at the start, aswell the build up to him achieving his 700th test wicket were particularly good.

He didn't look that healthy with all that dieting and botox.

    RIP Aussie

    Re: Shane Warne dead

    That really is shocking news.

One of the, if not the, best spin bowler ever.

    RIP Shane.

    Edit:
Definitely THE best spin bowler the game has seen!

    Great spinner.

Very good thinker of the game aswell. He had clear, simple opinions on the game that made sense. No over tactical nonsense, or silly phrases. Just a good clear understanding of the way to win games of cricket

    RIP Warnie.

I met him in a nightclub in Brum once. His team-mates were (politely) trying to stop randoms like me bothering him, but he pushed them aside and was happy to chat. Top cricketer, and I enjoyed his commentary too.

It's fair to say he packed a fair bit into his life.

Terrible. Really shocked by this. Bumped into Warne and a few of the Australian cricket team in the mid 90s in a bar in Sydney. Doesnt seem that long ago.

RIP an all time great of the game.

A great loss indeed - and a very forthright character, sadly missed.....maybe Jim Laker runs him close??

In terms of sheer number of test wickets yes agreed but he did have a dodgy bowling action and more importantly ignored my kids and didn’t give them an autograph when playing for Glos v Glammy on a wet Friday night at Sophia Gardens. So for me it’s Warney all the way.

    Re: Shane Warne dead

I met him at Glamorgan whilst he was playing for Hampshire, a truly humble guy and a gentleman and one of the greatest ever cricketers who made spin bowling fashionable.

    R.I.P
