You are right - it probably doesn't justify panic.
It is a shit show (literally with many of the rivers polluted by Thames Water) and is certainly no proof of 'good times' (who ever claimed that?) but neither does it feed your vague, slippery, apocalyptic predictions of an imminent collapse of all political, social and economic systems - as part of a devilish masterplan by Dr Evil and friends. But in fact it is just mismanagement by a privatised water company. Serious but....
