    No, it's a taxpayer-funded policy.

Besides, correct me if I'm wrong, I thought it was a loan.

I presume you are trying to make some snide comment on the fact that it's administered and not funded out of council coffers. How silly. Westminster has loaded unfunded obligations on the local authority sector which I am sure you're aware of.

Westminster's energy security strategy has been AWOL for decades so I don't think it would be unfair to say the energy crisis in the UK has partially been driven by Westminster's ineptitude. They (partially) made this mess, they should clear it up.

    This one isn't a loan.
There's another scheme that gives households £200 credit on the gas/electricity bills. That's a loan and you have to pay it back in 4 x £50 chunks. You can't opt out of it which is a bit daft.

Surely it would have been more beneficial to lower everyone’s council tax bill by £150 also saving tax payers money being used to implement this scheme
It's same with winter fuel allowance it funds other stuff.

Guess it helps those in need hopefully?

I’m not trying to cause offence in anyway mate but the point I was trying to make is there will be some people perhaps will have £150 and most probably those on low incomes will spend it on say treats for the family and still be left with a hefty council tax bill I’m not knocking or criticising any one for doing this as when I first started out in life and didn’t have much I would have treated my wife and kids myself

What does it matter to me
I’m concerned it will drive some poor families into debt
What has it got to do with me
    Only my concerns for others

So you are worried, but it still has nothing to do with you.

£2,000.61p. Where the feck do they get 61 pence from ffs?

I also discovered that despite living in a 2 up 2 down old workers cottage I am in Band E so don't get the rebate. It hardly seems worth trying sometimes.

I got mine last week. Seems a strange system to prioritise the coolest and most handsome first, but it seems that's what they have gone with.

You may live in the Merthyr area, or another authority that has a similar payment policy. Here's Merthyr's.

How will I get my payment?

We have already started making payments for those householders that pay their council tax through direct debit and we have already processed over 13,000 payments. If you pay by direct debit you should see the payment in your account from Tuesday 17th May 2022 onwards, please be aware that it might take a few days for the payment to be available.

If you do not pay your council tax by direct debit, you will need to complete an online registration form to receive the cost of living payment. You can only register on receipt of the invitation letter from this authority. The online application form will made available on the local authorities website when the invitation letters have been issued which will be in June 2022.

    More info: https://www.merthyr.gov.uk/resident/...pport-payment/
