Why more Welsh players have appeared for Cardiff in the last two seasons than the previous nine combined

The last time a Wales manager had so many Cardiff City players to keep an eye on, the current postholder was playing for the Bluebirds.

Interesting. But when you consider that 2004/05 and 2021/22 were comfortably City's worst Championship campaigns since the club returned to this level in 2003, then maybe it's best not to get too excited.

To be fair though, that 11 included Gabbidon, Collins, Earnshaw and Ledley. I'd be pleasantly surprised if 4 of the young Welsh players we've given debuts to went on to play in the Premier League as those did

One of the 9 Welsh players has departed today. One had already gone. So, seven left for now:

Colwill, Davies, Denham, Evans, Harris, King, Vaulks.

Interesting looking back at the 2004/05 team and their Championship appearances (sub in brackets):

    James Collins - 32 (+2)
    Robert Earnshaw - 4
    Stuart Fleetwood - 1 (+5)
    Danny Gabbidon - 45
    Joe Ledley - 20 (+8)
    Martyn Margetson - 3 (+1)
    Robert Page - 8 (+1)
    Paul Parry - 12 (+12)
    John Robinson - 8
    Danny Thomas - 0 (+1)
    Rhys Weston - 23 (+2)

I can't remember anything at all about Danny Thomas. A brief sub appearance in a home defeat to Preston was his only first team action.
