During the last 12 months I've watched many European referees in charge of matches involving English teams, British International teams, and major European competitions. The one constant throughout is just how much they let the game flow. Un-fussy, not awarding free kicks just because a player falls to the floor, allowing hard but fair tackles. Back here, it's got to the ridiculous stage - the slightest contact, hint of a foul, any player going down however dramatically - they all get given.
Years gone by it was a given that a 'continental' referee was going to penalize the hard-tackling Brits for the slightest contact - this now seems to be completely reversed, with pinickity, over-zealous, fussy PL officials now in charge.
