Half tidy cricketer as well played against in the mid/late 80s when he played for Llanelli - Nice guy off the pitch as well

My earliest rugby memory is of him tucking the ball under his shirt after scoring a great try against Scotland.
    RIP to a true great.

A very special outside half and those of us, of a certain age, certainly looked upon him as a stand out player of that era.RIP.

Yep the one v Scotland is probably my favourite try ever. By the end of it four or five Scots were on the floor. The inside pass by Fenwick....

I was lucky enough to see that live. What a memory, and what a part Gerald twinkle toes Davies played in it!

I watched it at home with my dad who of course loved it. Gerald Davies played a big part too. The glory days of Welsh rugby.

Quality player who stepped into Barry John's shoes.
Reminds me of the French Copper on Grand Slam.

RIP to a true rugby and Welsh legend.

Gerald Davies was my form teacher in Llanrumney High School and I was totally starstruck by him when he first came into the classroom. He had a ferocious temper and not someone to mess with. Unbelievable to see him playing for the teachers against the pupils on sports day.

I think Gerald Davies is my favourite rugby player ever - the epitome of what the modern game lacks. Phil Bennett’s not far behind him though, I agree with those who referenced the Barbarians and Scotland tries as being great examples of his genius, but I would add his displays for the Lions in South Africa in 1974 where the conditions seemed to suit his running game.

The fact that the news of his passing wasn’t unexpected doesn’t make it any harder to take - I also liked his punditry, he was nearly always generous in his assessments of players even though the one he was talking about at the time invariably only had a fraction of his talent.

    RIP

Don't people think backs and half backs of their era were often good old round sportsmen ?

Rugby, Football , Cricket .....gits could do it all .

Gerald Davies and Phil Bennett tried to avoid contact when carrying the ball and always looked for space. Both of them could sidestep off both feet.
They were unlike so many modern day backs who try to steamroller their way through the opposition.
