Thread: At last, we have a 'keeper lauded for his good distribution!

At last, we have a 'keeper lauded for his good distribution!

    According to the Derby fans.

I think what they say about Allsop carries more merit because the thread was created at the end of April, and their views were not prejudiced by the player leaving the club, as would perhaps be the case now.

There will be a lot of change quite quickly, hes a good start, as below the rest of the team will need to be able to adapt to a completely different style.

That should read “the onion bag”, to go with the pigs bladder

Seems to me we need to sign some strikers capable of bagging the occasional brace before the transfer window slams shut.

Good call, in fact it was Caldwell.

There wasn't as much lauding on that thread as I was expecting

Well, on the first page alone there are four posts that either directly comment about his distribution... "Allsop's distribution has been excellent this season" - or indirectly comment... "Allsop has better feet"
"Allsop is better for the style Rooney wants to play" (to which another poster replies... "I think this is it").

I'm not sure what the style Rooney wanted to play was, bit I don't remember them winning many plaudits for their playing style.
from memory I think they effectively closed down a lot of games, played with a very low block and prevented many good scoring opportunities, kind of a championship Burnley, a season too early.

I think we can agree that the primary role of any 'keeper is to prevent the ball from going into the back of the net. So when using the word "style" and talking about a goalkeeper, I would assume it's about playing the ball out from the back to defenders or perhaps the 'keeper finding midfielders directly, rather than just hoofing long.

If we want someone good with his feet, then put a bloody outfielder player in goals (maybe not one of ours though)!

All the fuss these days about a goalkeeper and his distribution. I'll take the goalkeeper who is best at stopping the ball going in our net every time.

His stats were way better than our chumps at that too.

I think ours were pretty unlucky to be playing behind a defence and midfield that would routinely offer up one or two very good chances straight through the middle of the pitch. They both had a couple of clangers in there as well, but largely I would attribute our defensive woes to a lack of mobility in defence and midfield.

I get the impression splott parker would confuse Stan Ogden with Len Faiclough!

This playing out from the back malarkey, in the words of Private Frazer “we’re doomed”

Passing square is inviting trouble. The better teams often move it forward in increments but almost always forwards. Of course that involves players moving into space to receive the ball.
Difficult to comprehend that players who devote their lives to the game and make it their profession struggle with this concept.

We should have gone for Albert Tatlock from the Rovers

Agreed. Possibly the best keeper I've ever seen was Peter Shilton and he was such a great shot-stopper it was said that he was worth 10-15 points per season to his team.
