I’m not disputing that these are worrying times, I’m just saying I don’t understand the glee from some of you. For those unaware, Kaliningrad which has been Russian territory post WW2, belonged to Germany for centuries before when it was called Königsberg. Problems with Germany accessing it played a large part in WW2 starting.

Russia warns UK will 'cease to exist' in nuclear WW3 saying Britain will vanish

The UK will “physically cease to exist” if the new standoff in Lithuania triggers a nuclear World War 3, warned a retired Russian general and military expert.

Lieutenant-General Evgeny Buzhinsky told Russian state TV the West is playing with fire in blockading Russian exclave Kaliningrad to prevent sanctioned goods reaching the territory via NATO state Lithuania.

He lashed out at British general Sir Patrick Sanders, who took command of the UK’s land forces this week with a rallying call to troops to prepare to fight and beat Russian forces in a World War 3.

“He doesn’t understand that as a result of the Third World War Britain will physically cease to exist,” said Buzhinsky.

“The island will vanish, so I’ve no idea where he or his descendants will live.”

In his message to troops, General Sanders had said: “I am the first Chief of the General Staff since 1941 to take command of the Army in the shadow of a land war in Europe involving a continental power.

“The scale of the enduring threat from Russia shows we've entered a new era of insecurity. It is my singular duty to make our Army as lethal and effective as it can be. The time is now and the opportunity is ours to seize.”

Buzhinsky warned that alongside the war in Ukraine, the Kaliningrad situation is “deeply serious”, and claimed the West had ulterior motives.

We await the spark which will ignite the conflict. Perhaps someone lobbing a missile into that enclave will suffice.

From what I've read that small territory is bristling with Russia's doom weaponry, including some of their vaunted hypersonic nuclear arsenal.

MP Andrey Gurulyov, 54, a member of Russian parliament’s defence committee, advocated the Russian invasion of the NATO Baltic countries.

On state TV’s Channel 1 he said there was no other way to prevent the West blockading Russian exclave Kaliningrad.

Such a move would trigger NATO’s clause five and spark World War Three.

“We’ll destroy the entire group of enemy’s space satellites during the first air operation,” said Lt-Gen Gurulyov, a senior commander who now represents United Russia, the main pro-Putin political party.

“No-one will care if they are American or British, we would see them all as NATO.

“Second, we’ll mitigate the entire system of anti-missile defence, everywhere and 100 per cent.

“Third, we certainly won’t start from Warsaw, Paris or Berlin.

“The first to be hit will be London.

“It’s crystal clear that the threat to the world comes from the Anglo-Saxons.”

Like other Moscow hardliners, he believes the West - especially on continental Europe - has no stomach for a real war.

“As part of the operation to destroy critically important sites, Western Europe will be cut off from power supplies and immobilised.

“All power supply sites will be destroyed.

“And in the third stage, I shall see what the USA will tell Western Europe on continuing their fight in the cold, without food and electricity.

“I wonder how they (the US) will manage to stay aside.

“This is the rough plan, and I deliberately leave out certain moments because they are not to be discussed on TV.”

Am I correct in thinking that this Lt-Gen Gurulyov guy assumes that Russia will knock out all of NATO's defence systems in a first strike maneuver so that MAD (mutually assured destruction) will not apply? If so is he not overlooking the simple fact that radioactive fallout and nuclear winter effects whilst may not immediately kill Russian people, will eventually do so, thus prolonging the agony for millions of people around the globe who may have survived the initial inferno.
