Smith level holing a putt McIlroy has been missing. McIlroy needs to get the putter working.
McIlroy’s been driving the ball superbly, but the longest putt he’s made all day is about four feet. He’s playing the Road Hole brilliantly and has about a fifteen foot putt for birdie - surely he’s got to make one eventually?Originally Posted by Hilts
A fabulous Open, enjoyed every minute. Did Rory play too conservative? Maybe but no-one could have foreseen Cameron Smith playing the round of his life. The most incredible display of putting ever and a worthy Champion.
Since stats records McIlroy is the only player in Open history to lead after 3 rounds hit every green in regulation last round and not win.
From what ive seen missed too many birdie chances.
Disappointing for Rory, but what a final round by Smith to win it.

Just awesome, Smith’s approach shots & then putting was something else, relentless over the back 9. Rory couldn’t sink anything but you cant play against a 30 back 9 and a man so calm & accurate.
Deserved winner. Relentless pursuit of the leaders paid dividends.

It’s a short career though and he’s got to think of his family - actually it’s harder to think of a longer, lucrative, career in sport than a male professional golfer.
