He went on to work with the local boy scouts

They didn't do much vetting in those days

Should you not know, it's a relatively tiny place with a population of 4K. Most residents are minted as they're experts at fiddling their annual tax returns. It's why it has so many pubs and eateries.

It's not all wine and roses there though.

So many moonlight thefts has resulted in few women daring to leave their drawers fluttering on their washing lines overnight to be air-dried as nature intended.
    Sludge, I'm disappointed.

Are there any lefties on here that actually live in working class communities?

Nearly all of my left-wing friends are very comfortably off, just like their parents before them.

Apparently locals are going to boycott the place as she was very popular.

Story should be in the echo tomorrow or Saturday

James, it might be to do with the Socio Economic group that you mix with, rather than all the lefties you know being well off. Think about it and then give your head a wobble

Haven't been in there for years but always thought it was a really popular pub. Such a shame if no one else it put in to run it and it closes for good.

You obviously don't know why Sludge lives there but you're still trying to goad him.

    Re: Pub Closures

The current landlord of my local was until recently the Manager of the Cross in Rumney. She told me that the Brewery have just appointed a new retail manager to the cross which is doing very well and there is no chance of them closing it.

She says the idea that the Retreat is closing is also wide of the mark.

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't doing okay'ish at the least. The nearby Carpenter's Arms has gone, so too has the Rompney Castle.
Surely that catchment area can support one pub?

Yes The Park is still going strong. There's a Tesco extra now where The Vic once stood.

Nah, there's been a big shift politically in the past 10 years. Working class voters are desserting the barmy, woke, "open borders" of Labour for the slightly less woke, "open borders" of the phony Conservatives. Evidenced by Boris's "red wall" win up North in the last GE.
