The season is over for me already; I'm convinced were going to go up as Champions. ffs it's boring when we win every game at a canter.

Perhaps they're doing the medical in two bits - bottom half yesterday, top half today..

found this on twitter that I thought was interesting.

massive disclaimer - these are very small sample sizes, so we shouldn't read basically anything into them - the error bars on these will be massive.

that's what we shouldn't do, but that's less fun. So let's dive into the data.

crosses - not surprising, he's playing centrally and not likely to be pinging many crosses into the box.

goals - above average for strikers in L1 but wayyy abouve the xG number, so you probably wouldn't expect him to keep scoring at that rate, not without making a big change in the other underlying numbers .

xG pretty low, probably due to the even lower number of shots he makes per game, and touches in oppo box is also really low. this is probably where we will be hoping he can improve his game. if we can get him on the ball on the box and he can start getting higher numbers of shots the xG will shoot up. obviously there are big team effects here and I've no idea how Cheltenham played when he was there.

shooting accuracy and goal conversion % is excellent, but given a very low number of shots in an already low number of games these are REALLY small sample sizes, could be promising though.

expected assists are good - which seems to tie into the video clips showing him setting up other players quite often.

he's slightly below average for aerial duels - which is a little surprising for someone if his stature, but by no means a disaster.

other defensive stats are pretty good though, especially interceptions and defensive duels, which suggests he's working hard and pressing well - which should fit into our new style.

passing stats are all really good as are dribbles (again small sample size klaxon going off). progressive passing is lower but you'd probably expect that of someone playing in a CF role as there won't be anyone ahead of you on the pitch to pass to a lot of the time.

    definitely an interesting profile
    Nice conversion rate there

Obvious from his YouTube highlights that he likes a dribble - and certainly seemed to set up some goals, even from positions where he might’ve shot himself

Book the open top bus now

With a couple of useful additions from the loan market I think we can be looking at a top half finish this season, the Championship is a tough league and you only have to go on a run of 5-6 good results to be in and around the top 6
We certainly look far more competitive on Saturday than we have for a long time!
One things for certain its been an interesting transfer window for us, and if Morison can pick out a couple more, like Collins etc he will definitely deserve all the plaudits that will come his way

generally though for a young striker, things like number of shots and touches in the box are considered to be pretty important, so it doesn't suggest he's going to take the championship by storm, however there's certainly an interesting player in there

    No. Or not yet.

    Q:Kion Etete, close?

A: He is close to coming. It’s never done until that bit of paper is signed. (Steve Morison)

Sounds like it’s happening at least and not a case of failing the medical or having his head turned by another team.

"He is close to coming. It's never done until that bit of paper is signed," Morison said of Etete.

"He is an investment for the football club. He has all the attributes to be a top striker. He is young, hungry. He is a player we see as a club that is ready now and can get better and better. We’d like to see how far we can take him."

"People will just go, 'Oh, he is 6 ft 4in', that's not what he's been brought in for. He's being brought in because he is strong, he's quick, he's athletic," Morison said of the Tottenham man.

"He will bring other players into the game. He will run the channels. He will run all day long, he will harry and close down. I'd like to think that with playing regular football at Championship level, training with those types of players every day, he will get better and better.

"Being 20 and having a good upbringing at Notts County. I saw him at Northampton and one of the big things he needs to do is be consistent. We will ask him to be consistent with his hold-up play, the timing of his runs and his work play.

"We have got a top player on our hands. Just because I've signed someone who is big doesn't mean anything. Rubin [Colwill] is 6ft 4in and he can't head for toffee!"

good job SM is in favour, as that wouldn't have gone down well on here if he wasnt

I don't have a problem with that sort of comment.

He has also described Colwill as 'a special talent' and said pre Norwich that he wouldn't be rushing Colwill and Davies back into the match-day squad (without a pre-season) because both were 'too important' to the club and the team to take any risks.

Against all the positive comments and opinion, he is keeping Colwill grounded. We all know that Colwill isn't a great header of the ball and he probably needs to work on that a lot to become a more rounded player. James Rowberry on EJFF basically said the same thing - it was seen as a weakness last year and the player and coaches were trying to do something about it.

It's remarkable how often you post stuff like this saying "oh well the board will be thinking this" or "look out people will be saying this" when no one's saying anything of the sort and you're the only one who brings it up. If you're upset by what Morison's said there, just say it, this is a safe space

You might remember my posts when SM said something that had this place in meltdown ( you might not, as you might have been banging your keyboard in fury at the time ? ? ? ) , I said I am sure he knows the player better than most on here and knows the line,

so, no it hasn't upset me, but thanks for your concern

On the last Elis James Feast Of Football they had James Rowberry as a guest on the pod.

Very interesting for a lot of reasons.

But one thing he spoke about was the potential for Rubin Colwill ('He can be anything he wants') and the extra sessions he used to do with Colwill to improve his heading ability.
